  1. 11. Organic and organometallic compounds for nonlinear absorption of light

    Author : Per Lind; Bertil Eliasson; Adolf Gogoll; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : Organic chemistry; Nonlinear absorption; thiophene; platinum complexes; optical limiting; sonogashira coupling reactions; molecular orbital calculations; Organisk kemi; organisk kemi; Organic Chemistry;

    Abstract : The demand for protection of eyes and various types of optical sensors from laser-beam pulses has resulted in the search for optical limiting devices that have the property of being transparent at low intensity of light (normal light), but non-transparent towards high intensity (laser) light. This type of protection may be obtained by using an organic material that displays nonlinear optical (NLO) properties. READ MORE

  2. 12. Fundamental interactions in transition metal reactions

    Author : Michael R. Coates; Michael Odelius; Markus Kowalewski; Abhik Ghosh; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; quantum chemistry; electronic structure; multiconfigurational; density functional theory; molecular dynamics; excited state molecular dynamics; non-adiabatic dynamics; solvation; organometallic complexes; x-ray absorption spectroscopy; photoelectron spectroscopy; time-resolved spectroscopy; femtosecond; picosecond; kemisk fysik; Chemical Physics;

    Abstract : Transition metal complexes that participate in homogeneous reactions often perform the role of a catalyst, facilitating novel reaction pathways. When these complexes are pushed away from their equilibrium, the arrangement of the coordinating ligands around the metal center is perturbed and new reaction pathways are opened. READ MORE

  3. 13. Carbon Nanostructures – from Molecules to Functionalised Materials : Fullerene-Ferrocene Oligomers, Graphene Modification and Deposition

    Author : Michael Nordlund; Helena Grennberg; Mogens Brøndsted Nielsen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fullerenes; Graphene; Deposition; Functionalization; Organometallic complexes; Chemistry with specialization in Organic Chemistry; Kemi med inriktning mot organisk kemi;

    Abstract : The work described in this thesis concerns development, synthesis and characterisation of new molecular compounds and materials based on the carbon allotropes fullerene (C60) and graphene.A stepwise strategy to a symmetric ferrocene-linked dumbbell of fulleropyrrolidines was developed. 4. 14. Aspects on the Regio and Stereo Selectivity in the Hydrolsilylation of 1,3-Dienes

    Author : Magnus Gustafsson; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Metallorganisk kemi; Organometallic chemistry; Organisk kemi; Organic chemistry; Lewis acid; electrophilic ring closure; asymmetric hydrosilylation; reaction conditions; isoprene; regioselectivity; oxygen; Wilkinsons catalyst; 15N-1H-HMQC; 31P; heterobidentate ligands; catalyst; palladium; epoxy-allylsilanes; rhodium complexes; dienes;

    Abstract : This thesis is a summary of four papers concerning various aspects on the transition metal catalysed hydrosilylation of 1,3-dienes. The hydrosilylation reaction is formally an addition of a hydrosilane to an unsaturated system and depending on the reaction conditions, control of stereo-, regio-, and chemo-selectivity can be achieved. 5. 15. Investigation of Coordination Modes of Organosulfur Ligands to osmium and Rhodium Carbonyl Clusters- Possible Relevance to Hydrodesulfurization Reactions

    Author : Nitsa Kiriakidou-Kazemifar; Kemiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; thioethers; thiols; HDS processes; organosulfur compounds; polynuclear metal complexes; Metallorganisk kemi; Organometallic chemistry; thiophenes;

    Abstract : The coordination and fundamental transformations of organosulfur compounds to polynuclear metal complexes has been studied as models for possible surface species in industrial HDS processes. Reactions between [Os3(CO)11(NCMe)] and various thiols have been studied by UV-Vis, IR and NMR spectroscopy and all experimental findings indicate that the reactions proceed via a two-step consecutive process involving the intermediate [Os3(CO)11(RSH)], which contains an agostic Os-H-S interaction, and which leads to the formation of the final product [Os3(CO)10(m-H)(m-SR)].
