2. Computational Modeling of the Mechanisms and Selectivity of Organophosphate Hydrolases
Abstract : Computational modeling is becoming an increasingly integral part of (bio)chemistry, providing a powerful complementary view into the dynamics, binding, and reactivity of biochemical systems. In particular, molecular simulations based on multiscale models are now regularly employed in studies of enzymatic reactions, offering invaluable mechanistic insight through the lens of molecular energy landscapes. 3. New methods for determination of airborne pollutants : Focus on tetrabromobisphenol A, organophosphate triesters and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons
Abstract : The work presented in this thesis concerns the development and evaluation of new methods of sampling and analysis of organic pollutants in the indoor and outdoor environment. In Paper I, the development of a new method was reported for the determination of the brominated flame retardant tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA) in air using sampling with glass fiber filter and polyurethane foam (PUF), ultrasonic solvent extraction and liquid chromatography coupled to electrospray ionisation mass spectrometry (LC-ESI/MS). 4. Solid-phase Microextraction and Detection of Organophosphate Triesters in Indoor air
Abstract : In the work underlying this thesis solid-phase microextraction (SPME) was evaluated as a passive sampling technique for organophosphate triesters in indoor air. These compounds are used on a large scale as flame-retarding and plastizicing additives in a variety of materials and products, and have proven to be common pollutants in indoor air. READ MORE

5. Neurotoxicity after poisonings with organophosphate pesticides in Nicaragua
Abstract : In Nicaragua rates of acute human poisonings caused by pesticides, in spite of significant underreporting, are among the highest in the world. Hence the unrestricted availability of pesticides and their misuse, as well as the continuous increase in annual imports of pesticides are reasons for public health concern. READ MORE
