  1. 1. Assessment of mobile radiometry data in radiological emergencies using Bayesian statistical methods

    Author : Antanas Bukartas; Malmö Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Mobile gamma spectrometry; Gamma spectrometry; Orphan source; lost source; Ionizing radiation; Bayesian; Activity; position; activity density; reconstruction; UAV; car-borne;

    Abstract : Nuclear technology and the use of radiation sources have been extensively adopted in the modern world. Despite that, a number of radiological accidents, significantly affecting population and the environment, has happened. Few of the most known are accidents in Chernobyl and Fukushima nuclear power plants. READ MORE

  2. 2. Orphan source detection in mobile gamma-ray spectrometry - Improved techniques for background assessment

    Author : Peder Kock; Malmö Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Gamma spectrometry; airborne; car-borne; radioactive; orphan sources; hypothesis testing; background radiation;

    Abstract : Hazardous radioactive sources out of regulatory control are referred to as orphan sources. Focussing on gamma-emitting orphan sources, this thesis describes methods that can be used in mobile gamma-ray spectrometry to perform real-time discrimination between an actual source signal and the signal due to the natural radiation background. 3. 3. On-line Mobile in situ Gamma Spectrometry

    Author : Thomas Hjerpe; Lund Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; radiobiologi; Kärnfysik; Nuclear physics; radiation protection.; 137Cs; peak-to-valley method; depth distribution; orphan source search; orphan sources; emergency preparedness; mobile gamma spectrometry; nuclear accidents; Nuclear medicine; radiobiology; Nukleärmedicin;

    Abstract : Mobile in situ gamma spectrometry is an important instrument in the emergency preparedness for nuclear accidents. This work contributes through the development of strategies and analysis methods for two applications: an on-line search for gamma-emitting orphan sources and on-line estimation of the depth distribution of 137Cs. 4. 4. Healthcare Priority Setting and Rare Diseases : What Matters When Reimbursing Orphan Drugs

    Author : Johanna Wiss; Gustav Tinghög; Per Carlsson; Lars-Åke Levin; Ann-Charlotte Nedlund; Joanna Coast; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The rarity of a disease can give rise to challenges that differ from conventional diseases. For example, rarity hampers research and development of new drugs, and patients with severe, rare diseases have limited access to qualified treatments. When drugs are available, clinical evidence has higher uncertainty and the drugs can be very expensive. READ MORE

  5. 5. Radiation Detection Techniques for the Enhancement of Nuclear Safety

    Author : Petty Bernitt Cartemo; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; whole body counting; depth profiling; voxel phantom; nuclear safeguards; Monte Carlo; orphan sources; radiation-induced material damage; pulsed beam; positron lifetime;

    Abstract : The hazard originating from the use of nuclear materials in various areas of the society necessitates a number of experimental techniques for controlling and increasing the safety connected to radioactive substances.The following thesis is divided into two parts, representing different aspects to the detection of radiation effects.
