  1. 1. Introduction of regional high speed trains : A study of the effects of the Svealand line on the travel market, travel behaviour and accessibility

    Author : Oskar Fröidh; KTH; []
    Keywords : The Svealand line; high speed trains; regional travel; travel behaviour; choice of transport mode; accessibility; TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIKVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : The Svealand line opened in 1997 and the services areoperated with regional high speed trains. While the Svealandline was being built, the slow trains that had been inoperation on the old railway between Eskilstuna and Stockholm(a distance of 115 km) were replaced by buses with a highfrequency of service. 2. 2. A Simulation-Optimization Approach for Improved Robustness of Railway Timetables

    Author : Johan Högdahl; Markus Bohlin; Oskar Fröidh; Alireza Ahmadi; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Railroad; Timetabling; Optimization; Simulation; Robustness; Punctuality; Delay prediction.; Järnväg; Tidtabelläggning; Optimering; Simulering; Robusthet; Punktlighet; Förseningsprediktion.; Transportvetenskap; Transport Science; Transportsystem; Transport Systems;

    Abstract : The timetable is an essential part for the operations of railway traffic, and its quality is considered to have large impact on capacity utilization and reliability of the transport mode. The process of generating a timetable is most often a manual task with limited computer aid, and is known to be a complex planning problem due to inter-train dependencies. READ MORE

  3. 3. Improving Timetable Robustness and Punctuality of Railway Traffic : A Combined Simulation-Optimization Approach for Nonperiodic Timetabling on Double-Track Lines

    Author : Johan Högdahl; Markus Bohlin; Oskar Fröidh; Rob Goverde; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Timetabling; Train scheduling; Delay prediction; Punctuality; Railroad; Robustness; Transportsystem; Transport Systems;

    Abstract : To evaluate the robustness of a timetable against minor delays, it can be simulated. A natural question following a simulation is how the results can be used to improve the timetable, which has received limited attention in the literature. READ MORE

  4. 4. Challenges with Driverless and Unattended Train Operations

    Author : Emil Jansson; Oskar Fröidh; Nils O.E. Olsson; Ingrid Johansson; Carl-William Palmqvist; Olov Lindfeldt; Ronghui Liu; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Railway; Automatic train operation; Driverless trains; Train driver; Roles; Automation challenges; Human senses; Trackside sensors; Transportsystem; Transport Systems; Transportvetenskap; Transport Science;

    Abstract : Demand for transportation continues to increase, for both freight and passenger services. One of the most energy-efficient modes of transportation is rail. One solution to increase the attractiveness of rail transport is to introduce automatic train operation (ATO) with a high grade of automation (GoA). READ MORE

  5. 5. Simulation Studies for Improved Efficiency in Road and Rail Freight Transports

    Author : Ingrid Johansson; Markus Bohlin; Oskar Fröidh; Behzad Kordnejad; Carl-William Palmqvist; C. Tyler Dick; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; heavy-duty vehicle platooning; road traffic simulation; intelligent transport systems; optimal control; longitudinal cruise control; fuel economy; railway traffic simulation; microscopic simulation; macroscopic simulation; freight trains; early departures; capacity; railway stations; strategic planning; timetable compression; UIC Code 406; Transportsystem; Transport Systems;

    Abstract : The demand for road and rail freight transport continues to grow with the expanding economy, while the climate crisis requires reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. Therefore, tools and solutions for reducing fossil fuel use and enabling more efficient use of infrastructure are needed. READ MORE
