11. The neuropeptide VIP and the IL-6 family of cytokines in bone : effects on bone resorption, cytokine expression and receptor signalling in osteoblasts and bone marrow stromal cells
Abstract : Bone tissue is continuously degraded and rebuilt to respond to the needs of the body. Cells of the osteoblast lineage are responsible for the formation of bone, whereas the resorption of bone tissue is carried out by osteoclasts. READ MORE

12. Effects of 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 and growth hormone on osteoblast-like cells
Abstract : Bone remodeling, which occurs throughout life in both cancellous and cortical bone, involves mainly the osteoblasts and osteoclasts. The osteoblast is responsible for the production of matrix, which later becomes mineralized. The osteoclast is a large, multinuclear cell, which is responsible for bone resorption. READ MORE

13. Biological aspects of synovial fluid mediated aseptic prosthesis loosening
Abstract : Aseptic prosthesis loosening is the most common reason for late failure of total hip arthroplasties. Resorption of the peri-prosthetic bone, resulting in a loose prosthesis is characteristic for aseptic loosening. READ MORE

14. Parathyroid hormone-related protein (PTHrP), calcium and human osteoblast-like cells
Abstract : Parathyroid hormone-related protein (PTHrP) may cause humoral hypercalcernia of malignancy (HHM) when overproduced by malignant tumors, but is also produced in lower amounts under normophysiological conditions in practically all cell types, including osteoblasts. One of the aims of the present study was to investigate interactions between PTHrP and osteoblasts, to elucidate bone-regulating functions of PTHrP. READ MORE

15. Vitamin D metabolism in osteoblast-like cells : effects of drugs on inactivation by CYP24A1
Abstract : Vitamin D is essential for bone function, and deficiency in active vitamin D hormone can lead to bone disorders. Long-term treatment with glucocorticoids and antiretroviral drugs used to treat HIV infection, results in osteoporosis and increased risk of fractures. Much remains unclear regarding the effects of these compounds in bone cells. READ MORE
