  1. 1. Testing large samples of PCM in water calorimeter and PCM used in room applications by night-air cooling

    Author : Rickard Bellander; Ove Söderström; Gudni Jóhannesson; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; phase-change material; PCM; water calorimeter; air heat exchanger; durability; thermal properties; heat capacity; Building engineering; Byggnadsteknik;

    Abstract : The latent-heat-storage capacity in Phase-Change Materials can be used for storing or releasing energy within a small temperature interval. Upon the phase transition taking place in a narrow temperature span, the material takes up or releases more energy compared to sensible heat storage. READ MORE

  2. 2. Aspects on wettability and surface composition of modified wood

    Author : Lars-Elof Bryne; Ove Söderström; Charles R. Frihart; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Wettability; contact angle; work of adhesion; Lewis acid-base; modified wood; Building engineering; Byggnadsteknik;

    Abstract : Wood is often combined with other materials such as thermoplastics, adhesives and coatings. In general, combinations of wood and polymers especially in outdoor exposure have poor long-term durability. READ MORE

  5. 5. The hygrothermal inertia of massive timber connstructions

    Author : Stéphane Hameury; Ove Söderström; Carsten Rode; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; 1H MRI; Building simulation environment; Heat buffering capacity; Heavy timber construction; Indoor climate; In-situ measurement; Magnetic Resonance Imaging; Building manufacturing engineering; Byggproduktionsteknik;

    Abstract : The work presented in this Doctoral dissertation concerns the ability of heavy timber structures to passively reduce the fluctuations of the indoor temperature and of the indoor relative humidity, through the dynamic process of heat and moisture storage in wood. We make the hypothesis that the potential offered by the hygrothermal inertia of heavy timber structures is significant, and that it could provide a passive way of regulating the indoor climate.
