  1. 1. Role of Fatty Acid Composition in Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease: a Dietary Perspective : Results from Interventional and Observational Studies

    Author : Michael Fridén; Ulf Risérus; Fredrik Rosqvist; Helen Lindqvist; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Fatty acids; Diet; Biomarkers; NAFLD; Liver fat; Fibrosis; Cirrhosis; HCC; Nutrition; Nutrition;

    Abstract : The overall aim of this doctoral thesis was to investigate the role of circulating, liver and dietary fatty acids in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). For circulating and liver fatty acids, special emphasis was given to fatty acids reflecting diet. READ MORE

  2. 2. Identification of natural activators of the nuclear receptor peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor : relevance to the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis

    Author : Jane Wigren; Ernst Oliw; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Polyunsaturated fatty acids induce peroxisome proliferation. This phenomenon is mediated by the ligand-dependent transcription factor peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR). This thesis is an investigation on the role of eicosanoids and oxidized products of linoleic acid for the activation of PPARs. READ MORE

  3. 3. Oxidation of fish lipids during gastrointestinal in vitro digestion

    Author : Karin Larsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TBARS; HHE; salmon; lipids; TIM; fish; HNE; in vitro digestion; gastrointestinal; aldehydes; cod liver oil; n-3 PUFA; herring; lipid oxidation; MDA;

    Abstract : Fish and many other marine organisms, contain long chain n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (LC n-3 PUFA), e.g. eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). EPA and DHA has shown beneficial effects in diseases related to inflammatory processes, such as cardiovascular diseases. READ MORE

  4. 4. Supercritical fluid extraction of bioactive compounds from berry seeds

    Author : Graziele Gustinelli Carvalho; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Tocopherols; Carotenoids; Fatty acids; Anti-oxidative activity; Berry seed oils; Microscopy.; Tocotrienols; Supercritical CO2 extraction;

    Abstract : Industrial processing of berries into food and beverages generates seeds as a by-product. Most of these seeds are treated as waste even though they contain valuable biological compounds. An approach to adding value to the process is to extract these compounds from the seeds. READ MORE

  5. 5. Lipid Composition and Deterioration in Light and Dark Muscle of Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss)

    Author : Torbjörn Ingemansson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Docosahexaenoic acid; lipid classes; fatty acids; muscle lipids; Palmitic acid; trout; differences; lipids; fish;

    Abstract : Nutritionally valuable lipids, including lipid classes and their fatty acids in light and dark muscle, have been determined and analyzed in farmed rainbow trout. Dark muscle was found to have a higher content of total lipids than light muscle, 7.3 wt% versus 3.0 wt%, which was mostly accounted for by neutral lipids, especially triacylglycerols. READ MORE
