11. Understanding ageing : the role of mitochondria in determination of caenorhabditis elegans life span
Abstract : Mitochondria are organelles found in eukaryotic cells. They are involved in many vital cellular functions. Consequently, mitochondrial dysfunction leads to a variety of human disorders. Many studies of the last 50 years showed that mitochondria are involved in the regulation of physiological ageing. READ MORE

12. Ageing and inflammation with focus on end-stage renal diseases : genetic and epigenetic factors
Abstract : The presence of ageing-associated disorders at a relatively young age in patients suffering from chronic kidney disease (CKD) has led to the hypothesis that CKD is characterized by accelerated ageing, resulting in a marked discrepancy between chronological and biological age. Factors that accelerate biological ageing, such as inflammation, oxidative stress, and toxins, impact the processes of cellular senescence and/or apoptosis, thereby shortening the life span of cells, and consequently, of the organism as a whole. 13. Studies on the thermal degradation of thermosetting polyimides and their composites
Abstract : The thesis contains a background and reflections section, an introduction, and three appended articles. The first section is reserved for some of the background and basics on polymers and polymer composites and a discussion on their effect on our everyday lives. The introduction gives a brief recap of the project. READ MORE

14. Chronic kidney disease and early vascular ageing : pinpointing culprits of injury and targets for intervention
Abstract : Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a progressive non-communicable disease, and a clinical model of premature ageing. Approximately 1 in 10 people globally have CKD, defined as abnormalities of kidney structure and/or function that persist for more than threemonths. READ MORE

15. Effects of Simulated Recycling on Polyolefin Materials
Abstract : Production and handling of waste is a matter of concern in most countries, and one way to reduce the amount of waste is recycling. Since synthetic polymers are made from non- renewable resources and are used in large amounts, often for short periods of time, they should be recycled in a sustainable society. READ MORE
