1. Electron Donor Systems in Natural and Artificial Photosynthesis
Abstract : Photosynthesis is the process by which light energy is converted into chemical products, in photoautotrophic bacteria, algae and plants. The principal idea is the production of reducing agents by photo-induced oxidation of a sacrificial electron donor. READ MORE

2. Stress- and immune defence in Drosophila melanogaster
Abstract : Many cellular responses are regulated at the transcriptional level. Newly synthesized proteins and peptides rapidly exert their function at the time of expression, as a response to different environmental cues. READ MORE

3. Proteomics in Nasal Lavage Fluids from Persulfate Challenged Hairdressers
Abstract : Hairdressers have an increased risk for developing airway symptoms e.g. asthma and rhinitis. Persulfate salts, which are oxidizing agents present in bleaching powder, are considered to be important causal agents for these symptoms. READ MORE

4. Palladium-catalyzed lignin valorization : Towards a lignin-based biorefinery
Abstract : The work described in this thesis focuses on the cleavage of the β-O-4′ bond, which is the most abundant interunit linkage in the lignin polymer. In the first part, three methods based on palladium catalysis have been developed and their applicability has been verified using lignin model compounds. 5. Direct Amino Acid-Catalyzed Enantioselective α-Oxidation Reactions and Asymmetric de novo Synthesis of Carbohydrates
Abstract : The ability of amino acids to form nucleophilic enamines with aldehydes and ketones has been used in the development of asymmetric α-oxidation reactions with electrophilic oxidizing agents. Singlet molecular oxygen has for the first time been asymmetrically incorporated into aldehydes and ketones, and the products were isolated as their corresponding diols in good yields and ee’s.
