  1. 1. Effects of Protons and Small Alcohols on the Oxygen-Evolving Complex of Photosystem II

    Author : Paulina Geijer; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; EPR; pH; methanol; S3; S2; S0; YZ; Mn cluster; Oxygen-evolving complex; S-states; Biochemistry; Metabolism; Biokemi; metabolism;

    Abstract : Higher plants and algae use oxygenic photosynthesis to convert solar energy to reducing equivalents and chemical energy. The ultimate electron donor to oxygenic photosynthesis is water. Oxidation of water to oxygen occurs in the oxygen-evolving complex (OEC) in Photosystem II (PSII). The OEC is composed of four Mn atoms, Ca2+ and Cl-. READ MORE

  2. 2. Substrate water binding to the oxygen-evolving complex in photosystem II

    Author : Håkan Nilsson; Johannes Messinger; Wolfgang Schröder; Robert L. Burnap; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Photosynthesis; Photosystem II; water oxidation; oxygen evolution; substrate water exchange; membrane-inlet mass spectrometry;

    Abstract : Oxygenic photosynthesis in plants, algae and cyanobacteria converts sunlight into chemical energy. In this process electrons are transferred from water molecules to CO2 leading to the assembly of carbohydrates, the building blocks of life. READ MORE

  3. 3. Photosynthetic Oxygen Evolution - EPR studies of the manganese cluster of photosystem II

    Author : Sindra Peterson Årsköld; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; S2 state; second cycle; Biochemistry; Metabolism; Biokemi; metabolism; S0 state; light-adaptation; pulsed EPR; methanol; relaxation; microwave power saturation; S-cycle; Oxygen-evolving complex; Water-oxidizing complex;

    Abstract : In this thesis, a new electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) signal from photosystem II is presented. The signal is shown to originate from the S0 oxidation state of the oxygen-evolving complex (OEC). READ MORE

  4. 4. Analysis of NMR Spin-lattice Relaxation Dispersion on Complex Systems

    Author : Yang Huang; Per-Olof Westlund; Arnold Maliniak; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NMRD; relaxation theory; hydration; MD; FFC; PrxV; OEC complex; ZSM-5; BMIM [PF6; ]; fysikalisk kemi; Physical Chemistry;

    Abstract : This thesis focus on the analysis of spin-lattice NMRD relaxation profilesmeasured in various complex systems such as proteins, zeolites and ionicliquids. Proton, deuterium and fluoride T1-NMRD relaxation profiles wereobtained from a fast-field cycling (FFC) instrument. READ MORE

  5. 5. Dinuclear Manganese Complexes for Artificial Photosynthesis : Synthesis and Properties

    Author : Magnus Anderlund; Björn Åkermark; William H. Armstrong; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Crystal Structure; Artificial photosynthesis; Manganese complex; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with the synthesis and characterisation of a series of dinuclear manganese complexes. Their ability to donate electrons to photo-generated ruthenium(III) has been investigated in flash photolysis experiments followed by EPR-spectroscopy. READ MORE
