  1. 1. The clinical value of total isovolumic time

    Author : Gani Bajraktari; Michael Henein; Krister Lindmark; Lars-Åke Brodin; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Heart failure; cardiac resynchronization therapy; predictors; echocardiography; total isovolumic time; six-minute walk test; left ventricular dyssynchrony;

    Abstract : The objective of this thesis is to evaluate the use of Doppler echocardiography markers ofglobal dyssynchrony [total isovolumic time (t-IVT)] in the following 6 studies: 1) Its prognostic role in predicting cardiac events in patients undergoing CABG surgery,compared with conventional global systolic and diastolic measurements. 2) Its additional value in predicting six minute walk test (6-MWT) in patients with leftventricular (LV) ejection fraction (EF) . 2. 2. Right heart function in health and disease : a doppler echocardiography and doppler tissue imaging study

    Author : Per Lindqvist; Elsadig E Kazzam; Anders Waldenström; Lars Åke Brodin; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine; Echocardiography; Doppler tissue imaging; right ventricle; cardiac catheterisation; isovolumic relaxation; isovolumic contraction; Medicin; Dermatology and venerology; clinical genetics; internal medicine; Dermatologi och venerologi; klinisk genetik; invärtesmedicin; kardiologi; Cardiology;

    Abstract : Background: It is well known that performance of the right ventricle (RV) determines exercise capacity and may confer prognostic information in different cardiopulmonary diseases. To allow optimal patient management, ideal methods to assess right heart function are therefore important. READ MORE

  3. 3. Tissue Doppler in Spectral and Color ModeMethodological ConsiderationsNon-invasive Estimation of Left Ventricular Filling Pressures using the E/Em index

    Author : Aristomenis Manouras; Lars Åke Brodin; Michael Henein; KTH; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Tissue Doppler; Cardiology; Kardiologi;

    Abstract : Aims: Tissue Doppler (TD) in spectral mode (spectral TD) and color TD are the two modalities available today in tissue velocity echocardiography (TVE). Measurements of left ventricular (LV) myocardial velocities and displacement may yield different results depending on the employed sonographic modality and the subjective adjustments during data analysis. 4. 4. Generation of magnetic fields in plasmas

    Author : Nitin Shukla; Gert Brodin; Dusan Jovanovic; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Relativistic and non-relativistic plasma outflows are quite ubiquitous in astrophysical scenarios, as well as in laboratory plasmas. The propagation of relativistic and non- relativistic charged particle beams in background plasmas provides return currents in the opposite direction and interactions between the currents then drive several plasma instabilities involving the longitudinal (electrostatic instabilities) and trans- verse (electromagnetic instability) modes. 5. 5. Echocardiographic methods for assessment of coronary artery disease

    Author : Peter Blomstrand; Lars-Åke Brodin; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Upright bicycle exercise echocardiography with digital image acquisition in seated position during exercise and in recumbent position before and immediately after exercise was performed in 66 men, one month after an episode of unstable coronary arte1y disease. It was difficult to obtain images of adequate quality during exercise but new or worsening of wall motion abnormalities not seen in recumbent position after exercise were detected at peak-exercise in patients with good image quality.
