  1. 1. Platelet adhesion and P-selectin surface expression

    Author : Per A. Whiss; Nils Olav Solum; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : divalent cations; ELISA; nicotine; nitric oxide; platelet adhesion; P-selectin; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Upon injury in a blood vessel, platelets become activated and adbere to prevent blood loss. Activated platelets express adhesion molecules on their surface that also make leukocytes adhere to the injury. One such molecule, which also is expressed on endothelium, is the glycoprotein P-selectin. READ MORE

  2. 2. On the role of mast cells in chemokine-induced leukocyte recruitment

    Author : Yusheng Wang; Kirurgi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; chemokines; mast cells; TNF-alpha; dexamethasone; P-selectin; E-selectin; activation; Medicine human and vertebrates ; endothelial cells; adhesion; Neutrophil; Medicin människa och djur ; recruitment;

    Abstract : Leukocyte recruitment is considered to playa key role in numerous inflammatory diseases. Tissue accumulation of Jeukocytes is a multi-steps process comprising rolling, adhesion and transmigration. READ MORE

  3. 3. Inflammatory mechanisms in experimental CNS trauma

    Author : Jonas Isaksson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; Spinal cord injury; brain injury; ICAM-1; P-selectin; iNOS; inflammation; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; Pathology; patologi;

    Abstract : Traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries are important causes of premature death and permanentdisability. To improve the treatment of CNS-injured patients increased knowledge about thepathophysiological events that mediate death or dysfunction of nervous tissue is urgently needed. READ MORE

  4. 4. Mediator synergism in mast celldependent inflammation : role of histamine for leukocyte recruitment

    Author : Henrik Thorlacius; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Chemoattractants; dexamethasone; histamine; inflammation; intravital microscopy; mast cells; leukocyte adhesion; leukocyte rolling; microcirculation; mast cells; nitric oxide; leukotrienes; P-selectin.;

    Abstract : The aim of the present thesis was to study functional interactions between histamine and chemotactic mediators, and the role of histamine for leukocyte recruitment in mast cell-dependent inflammation. Leukocyte rolling, adhesion and emigration. READ MORE

  5. 5. Platelet function in diabetes mellitus : relationships to hyperglycaemia, antidiabetic treatment and microangiopathy

    Author : Marianne Yngen; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Diabetes mellitus; platelet function; P-selectin; leukocyte-platelet cross-talk; endothelium; inflammation; coagulation; hyperglycaemia; metabolic control; microvascular complications; percutaneous coronary intervention.;

    Abstract : Diabetes mellitus is associated with accelerated atherosclerosis and increased morbidity and mortality in micro-and macrovascular complications. The metabolic derangements that accompany diabetes can adversely influence platelets and vascular endothelial function, which may contribute to the pathogenesis of diabetic angiopathy. READ MORE
