21. Role of platelets and neutrophils in regulating trypsinogen activation and tissue damage in acute pancreatitis
Abstract : Acute pancreatitis is an inflammatory disease characterized by a diverse spectrum of clinical presentations ranging from a mild and self-limiting to a severe and systemic disorder. The relationship between inflammation and proteolytic activation in pancreatitis is an elusive issue. READ MORE

22. Regulation of Tissue Factor and Coagulation Activity : Translation Studies with Focus on Platelet-Monocyte Aggregates and Patients with Acute Coronary Syndrome
Abstract : Myocardial infarction (MI) is often caused by a disruption of an atherosclerotic plaque with activation of coagulation, platelets and inflammation. The aims were; to investigate whether the oral direct thrombin inhibitor, ximelagatran affected markers for coagulation, platelet and inflammation in a patient cohort with recent MI and if the coagulation markers could identify patients with increased risk of new ischemic events; to evaluate some of the mechanisms involved in formation of platelet-monocyte aggregates (PMAs). 23. Platelets and the inflammatory response in coronary heart disease
Abstract : The thesis investigates a new invented computerised apparatus suitable for determining platelet density distribution and peak platelet density in undisturbed linear Percoll™ gradients. The device measures light transmission through test tubes containing density-separated platelets. READ MORE

24. Platelet Activation and Inhibition in Connection with Vascular Stents
Abstract : This thesis describes the Chandler loop, which makes it possible to conduct studies in vitro of molecular and cellular interactions between whole blood and stents. It was possible to monitor activation and inhibition of the cascades systems, leukocytes and platelets by combining different platelet inhibitors and heparin coating of stents. READ MORE

25. Cellular markers indicating activation of the hemostatic system : studies on platelets and leukocytes in peripheral human blood
Abstract : Platelet activation is supposed to initiate thrombus formation in many clinical settings such as coronary artery occlusions, stroke, diabetes mellitus complications, and in surgical interventions. Coagulation and thrombosis are also associated with inflammation in septicemia. READ MORE
