  1. 6. Strain-assisted corrosion cracking and growth rate inhibitors

    Author : Andrey P Jivkov; Mekanik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; vacuum technology; vibration and acoustic engineering; Maskinteknik; hydraulik; vakuumteknik; vibrationer; akustik; materialteknik; Mechanical engineering; Material technology; Materiallära; Stress intensity factor; Inhomogeneous materials; Crack evolution; Stress corrosion cracking; Moving boundary; hydraulics;

    Abstract : A model for evolution of cracks as a result of strain-assisted corrosion is presented. The considered cracks possess a realistic geometry, where the tip region is an integral part of the crack surface instead of being a singular point. This geometry is either implicitly defined or is a consequence of crack nucleation from surface irregularities. READ MORE

  2. 7. A flexible resonance sensor system for detection of cancer tissue : evaluation on silicon

    Author : Anders P. Åstrand; Britt Andersson; Ville Jalkanen; Olof A. Lindahl; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : The most common form of cancer among men in Europe and the US is prostate cancer. When a radical prostatectomy has been found necessary, it is of interest to examine the prostate, as tumour tissue on the capsule might indicate that the cancer has metastased. This is commonly done by a microscope-based morphometric investigation. READ MORE

  3. 8. Thrombin activatable fibrinolysis inhibitor (TAFI) in different hemorrhagic and thrombotic conditions

    Author : Jovan P Antovic; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Thrombin activatable fibrinolysis inhibitor TAFI ; coagulation; fibrinolysis; thrombin; plasmin; factor V Leiden; hemophilia; von Willebrand disease; diabetes mellitus; preeclampsia;

    Abstract : Until recently the coagulation and fibrinolytic systems were usually considered as separate entities. Accounts of a fibrinolysis inhibitor that is generated by thrombin shed more light on this field and changed the concept by giving thrombin, the pivotal enzyme in hemostasis, another important role in the down-regulation of fibrinolysis. 4. 9. Development of Transmission Electron Microscopy Techniques for the Study of Thin Films

    Author : John P. McCaffrey; Bender Hugo; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) is an invaluable tool for the study of the physics and materials properties of thin films. This thesis addresses innovations and novel applications of TEM to materials physics, and consists of three parts: the examination and development of innovative TEM sample preparation techniques, conventional selected area electron diffraction with new techniques for data extraction, and an extended TEM investigation of quantum dots. 5. 10. Triplet Excitation Energy Transfer in Donor-Bridge-Acceptor Systems: Experimental and Theoretical Investigations

    Author : Mattias P Eng; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; self-assembled monolayer; density functional theory; triplet excitation energy transfer; gold porphyrin; electron transfer; spectroscopy; superexchange; electronic coupling;

    Abstract : This thesis is a contribution to the understanding of bridge mediation of electron exchange processes in Donor-Bridge-Acceptor (D-B-A) systems. The field of research is relevant for the development and optimization of dye-sensitized solar cells, artificial photosynthesis, and the possible future development of molecular electronic devices.
