  1. 1. Molecular detection of abundance and activity of marine, symbiotic, N2-fixing cyanobacteria

    Author : Linnéa Ström; Rachel Foster; Daniel Lundin; Katharina Pawlowski; Rehab El-Shehawy; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Diatom Diazotroph Association; Richelia; Iron; Phosphorus; Nitrogen; nifH; pstS; exbB; rnpA; växtfysiologi; Plant Physiology; marinbiologi; Marine Biology;

    Abstract : Marine primary productivity in large parts of the oceans is supported by nitrogen fixers (diazotrophs). Richelia, a genus of multiple closely related species of heterocystous filamentous cyanobacterial diazotrophs, are often found in symbioses with a few genera of diatoms. Several Richelia species: R. euintracellularis, R. READ MORE

  2. 2. 12-14 week scan with emphasis on risk assessment for fetal structural malformations and fetal loss

    Author : Maria-Dorothea Westin; gynekologisk och prenatal ultraljudsdiagnostik Obstetrisk; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Obstetrik; gynekologi; andrologi; reproduktion; sexualitet; reproduction; sexuality; Obstetrics; gynaecology; andrology; Miscarriage; Malformation; Congenital cardiac defect; Nuchal translucency; Prenatal diagnosis; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; Risk assessment;

    Abstract : The aim was to evaluate first trimester nuchal translucency (NT) measurement for detection and risk assessment of fetal malformations and fetal loss. 39 572 pregnant women were randomised to either a routine ultrasound scan at 12-14 weeks including NT measurement or to a routine scan at 18-20 weeks. 3. 3. Maternal diabetes during pregnancy – obstetrical considerations and long term effects

    Author : Andrea Stuart; Lund Obstetrik och gynekologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Maternal diabetes mellitus (DM) during pregnancy has detrimental health impacts on both the mother and fetus, and include increased risks of cardiac malformations, cesarean section (CS), and asphyxia. The aim of the thesis was to investigate short and long term cardiac effects after fetal exposure to DM, investigate the ability of a 5 minute Apgar score as a marker for obstetrical care, investigate the association between mode of delivery in diabetic pregnancies and a low 5 minute Apgar score, and to investigate the association between offspring birth weight and maternal risk of future DM. 4. 4. Fractional moving blood volume in fetal organs estimated using power Doppler ultrasound

    Author : Edgar Hernandez-Andrade; Lund Obstetrik och gynekologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; reproduction; andrology; gynaecology; Obstetrics; sexuality; Obstetrik; gynekologi; andrologi; reproduktion; sexualitet; fetal adrenal gland; fetal lung; radionuclear microspheres; fetal lamb; perfusion; fetus; Power Doppler ultrasound; fractional moving blood volume;

    Abstract : Power Doppler ultrasound (PDU) is a sensitive technique to detect slow blood movement. The aim of the present study was to develop a standardized method for quantification of the PDU signals recorded from a specific region of interest (ROI) within fetal organs. READ MORE

  5. 5. Neurohormonal Modulators in the Parathyroid Gland. Localization and regulation

    Author : Lena Luts; Malmö Patologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Receptor; In situ hybridization; Immunocytochemistry; Nitric Oxide Synthase; Endothelin; Neuropeptides; Chromogranin; Parathyroid adenoma; Parathyroid gland; Parathyroid hormone; mRNA; Endocrinology; secreting systems; diabetology; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi;

    Abstract : The occurrence and distribution of neurohormonal peptides, neuroendocrine markers and receptors in parathyroid nerve fibers and endocrine cells are described, using immunocytochemistry, in situ hybridization, image analysis and reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction. Immunocytochemical studies revealed that parathyroid glands of chicken, rat, guinea-pig, cat, dog and sheep contained adrenergic-, cholinergic-, and peptide-containing nerve fibers. READ MORE
