1. Pathophysiology of blood-brain barrier, brain edema and cell injury following hyperthermia : New role of heat shock protein, nitric oxide and carbon monoxide : an experimental study in rat using light and electron microscopy
Abstract : This thesis deals with the molecular mechanisms of hyperthermia induced brain damage in rats. The results clearly establish that hyperthermia caused by 4 h heat stress at 38° C is associated with a breakdown of the blood-brain barrier (BBB) permeability which seems to be instrumental in causing brain edema and cell injury. 2. Early life influences on adult organ function, health and disease, including data from Swedish population-based cohorts
Abstract : Prenatal insults or adverse events during the in-utero period may lead to suboptimal function of adult organs because of the impairment of critical organ development and growth, as linked to lower birth weight. This may ultimately predispose the individual to the later onset of some diseases in adulthood, a process known as Developmental Origins of Health and Disease (DOHaD). READ MORE

3. Strategies to improve outcome after islet transplantation using the GLP-1 receptor agonist, extendin-4
Abstract : Transplantation of pancreatic islets into the liver via the portal vein has emerged as a treatment option for patients with type I diabetes mellitus. However, loss of functional beta cell mass during isolation and following implantation is a major obstacle in obtaining good long-term results. READ MORE

4. Physico-chemical characterisation of microbial cell surface and bioflotation of sulfide minerals
Abstract : Biomineral beneficiation concerns the way in which microorganisms bring about the enrichment of an ore matrix. It involves the selective removal of undesirable mineral constituents from an ore through microbe-mineral interactions in the process such as selective flotation and flocculation. READ MORE
