  1. 1. Traffic-related pollutants in urban snow : Concentrations, size fractionation, and release with snowmelt

    Author : Arya Vijayan; Maria Viklander; Helene Österlund; Göran Blomqvist; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Urban snow; Traffic pollution; Suspended solids; Metals; PAHs; Tire and Road wear Particles T RWPs ; Microplastics MPs ; Size fractionation; VA-teknik; Urban Water Engineering; Centrumbildning - Centrum för dagvattenhantering DRIZZLE ; Centre - Centre for Stormwater Management DRIZZLE ;

    Abstract : In urban areas with seasonal snow, traffic-related pollutants such as solid particles, metals, chloride, organic pollutants, and microplastics (MPs) can be temporarily stored in snowbanks along roads and streets. When the snow melts, it releases the accumulated pollutants and the resulting snowmelt with diverse pollutants may partly infiltrate into the ground, or enter storm sewers and eventually be discharged into, and impact on, the receiving waters. 2. 2. Biodegradation of hydrocarbons in soil and water

    Author : Mikael Eriksson; KTH; []
    Keywords : Solid Phase Microextraction; SPME; biodegradation; bioremediation; bioavailability; monitoring; Volatile Organic Compounds VOC ; Screening; headspace sampling; polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons; PAHs; aliphatic hydrocarbons; total petroleum hydrocarb;

    Abstract : Biodegradation of aliphatic and polycyclic aromatichydrocarbons was studied in soil and liquid cultures attemperatures ranging from -5 º C to 20 º C undervarious aerobic or anaerobic, nitrate reducing, conditions. Twocontaminated soils were used in the studies. READ MORE

  3. 3. Characterisation of pollutants in stormwater treatment facilities

    Author : Kristin Karlsson; Davis Butler; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; VA-teknik; Urban Water Engineering;

    Abstract : The overall objective of this thesis is to increase the knowledge of both the pollutants within stormwater treatment facilities and the maintenance of these facilities. This objective has been achieved by studying water and sediment with respect to metal concentrations, fractionation, and toxicity from ponds, sedimentation tanks, and gully pots with different catchment characteristics as well as from the sediment removal process. 4. 4. Quality of snow deposited in urban areas : Storage, load assessment and release of selected pollutants with snowmelt

    Author : Arya Vijayan; Maria Viklander; Helene Österlund; Jiri Marsalek; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; VA-teknik; Urban Water Engineering; Centre - Centre for Stormwater Management DRIZZLE ; Centrumbildning - Centrum för dagvattenhantering DRIZZLE ;

    Abstract : Snow deposited in urban areas is exposed to pollutants originating from traffic, wet and dry atmospheric deposition, de-icing chemicals and traction materials. The conventional pollutants found in urban snow include solids (TSS), metals (Zn, Cu, Cd, Pb, etc.), Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs), and chlorides. READ MORE

  5. 5. Stormwater bioretention: Pollutant occurrence and accumulation in filter materials and forebays

    Author : Robert Furén; Godecke-Tobias Blecken; Jes Vollertsen; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Bioretention; Biofilter; storwater; quality; treatment; filter material; forebay; VA-teknik; Urban Water Engineering; Centrumbildning - Centrum för dagvattenhantering DRIZZLE ; Centre - Centre for Stormwater Management DRIZZLE ;

    Abstract : Urban areas are affected by anthropogenic activities and produce pollutants that are transported to recipients and receiving waters during precipitation. Untreated stormwater runoff is a main driver of environmental degradation, and the interest in stormwater quality treatment has increased with the awareness of stormwater pollution. READ MORE
