  1. 1. Regulatory mechanisms involved in pathoadaptation of extraintestinal pathogenic Escherichia coli

    Author : Nikola Zlatkov; Bernt Eric Uhlin; Åke Forsberg; Sun Nyunt Wai; Eliora Ron; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ExPEC; PAIs; pathoadaptation; citrate; metabolism; filamentation; toxins; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology; mikrobiologi; Microbiology;

    Abstract : Establishment of commensal bacteria within a new niche of their host usually promotes the transition from commensalism to pathogenicity. Extraintestinal Pathogenic Escherichia coli (ExPEC) represent different pathovars with biphasic lifestyle – they can reside in the gut as commensals or they can escape and cause diseases elsewhere in the human body. 2. 2. Modulating the anion ordering in apatites

    Author : Peter Alberius-Henning; Juan Manuel Pérez-Mato; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; oorganisk kemi; Inorganic Chemistry;

    Abstract : Hydroxyapatite constitutes the main inorganic part of the skeleton, and since the beginning of the seventies, synthetic apatite has been used in implants. The physical properties of this crystalline material are directly dependent on its atomic arrangement. If a better understanding of apatite chemistry is sought, important for e.g. READ MORE

  3. 3. The Social Organization of Institutional Norms : Interactional Management of Knowledge, Entitlement and Stance

    Author : Lina Nyroos; Björn Melander; Erica Sandlund; Camilla Wide; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Institutional interaction; Institutional norms; Conversation Analysis; Seminar; Performance appraisal interview; Stance; Epistemics; Entitlement; Scandinavian Languages; Nordiska språk;

    Abstract : The present thesis explores talk in institutional settings, with a particular focus on how institutionality and institutional norms are constructed and reproduced in interaction. A central aim is to enhance our understanding of how institutional agendas are talked into being. READ MORE

  4. 4. Pathogenecity-associated genes modulate Escherichia coli adhesion and motility

    Author : Annika E. Sjöström; Bernt Eric Uhlin; Ann-Beth Jonsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Abstract : Escherichia coli strains typical of UPEC (uropathogenic E. coli) and NBM (newborn meningitis) isolates carry chromosomally located PAIs (pathogenicity islands) that are absent in non-pathogenic E. coli strains. The PAIs include genes for virulence factors such as toxins and genes coding for specific adhesins and pili/fimbriae formation. READ MORE

  5. 5. Studies of androgen receptor gene mutations in patients phenotypically ranging from complete androgen insensitivity to men with preserved fertility

    Author : Yvonne Lundberg Giwercman; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : androgen insensitivity; androgen receptor; mutations; genetic diagnostics; abnormal sex differentiation; infertility;

    Abstract : The androgen insensitivity syndrome (AIS) is the single most common cause of male pseudohermaphroditism, i. e., deficient masculinization which is not explained by disturbed testis development. In its most severe form it affects at least 1/20 000 newborn 46, XY males. READ MORE
