  1. 1. Taxonomy, phylogeny, and secondary sexual character evolution of diving beetles, focusing on the genus Acilius

    Author : Johannes Bergsten; Anders N. Nilsson; Jyrki Muona; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biology; antagonistic coevolution; arms race; sexual conflict; diving beetle; Dytiscidae; Coleoptera; taxon sampling; long-branch attraction; parsimony; Bayesian analysis; taxonomic revision; Biologi; Biology; Biologi;

    Abstract : Sexual conflict can lead to antagonistic coevolution between the sexes, but empirical examples are few. In this thesis secondary sexual characters in diving beetles are interpreted in the light of sexual conflict theory. READ MORE

  2. 2. Phylogenetic Studies in the Lamiales with Special Focus on Scrophulariaceae and Stilbaceae

    Author : Per Kornhall; Birgitta Bremer; Nigel Barker; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biology; Bayesian inference; parsimony; phylogeny; Scrophulariaceae; Stilbaceae; taxonomy; Biologi; Biology; Biologi;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with plants from the flowering plant order Lamiales, and especially the two families Scrophulariaceae and Stilbaceae. Both families have their main geographical distribution in southern Africa. The thesis presents phylogenies of Scrophulariaceae s. lat. READ MORE

  3. 3. Evolutionary Studies in Asterids Emphasising Euasterids II

    Author : Jesper Kårehed; Mats H. G. Gustafsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Organismic biology; Apiales; Aquifoliales; Asterales; asterids; Bayesian inference; Cardiopteridaceae; DNA sequence data; Icacinaceae; morphology; parsimony; Pennantiaceae; phylogeny; Stemonuraceae; Organismbiologi; Organism biology; Organismbiologi; systematisk botanik; Systematic Botany;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with evolutionary relationships within the asterids, a group of plants comprising about one-third of all flowering plants.Two new families are recognised: Pennantiaceae and Stemonuraceae. The woody Pennantia from New Zealand and Australia is the sole genus of Pennantiaceae. READ MORE

  4. 4. Phylogenetic relationships and species richness of coprophilous ascomycetes

    Author : Åsa Nyberg Kruys; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ß-tubulin; Bayesian analysis; dung; forage; fungi; moose; parsimony; phylogeny; Pleosporales; spore dispersal; Sporormiaceae; Terrestrial ecology; Terrestisk ekologi;

    Abstract : Coprophilous ascomycetes are a diverse group of saprobes, of which many belong to three families, Delitschiaceae, Phaeotrichaceae and Sporormiaceae, within the large order Pleosporales. The natural relationships and circumscription of these families are unclear, especially within the family Sporormiaceae, where the generic delimitation have been questioned. READ MORE
