  1. 21. Sources of dioxins and other POPs to the marine environment : Identification and apportionment using pattern analysis and receptor modeling

    Author : Kristina Sundqvist; Karin Wiberg; Mats Tysklind; Paul Geladi; Miriam Diamond; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; air-water gas exchange; chiral; congener pattern; enantiomer; enantiomeric fraction; fugacity; HCH; hexachlorocyclohexane; homologue profile; indicator congener; isomer pattern; pattern analysis; PCA; PCB; PCDD F; PMF; polychlorinated dibenzofuran; polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxin; polychlorinated biphenyl; positive matrix factorization; principal component analysis; receptor modeling; source apportioning; source; source tracing; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi; Persistent organic compounds; Persistenta organiska föreningar;

    Abstract : In the studies underlying this thesis, various source tracing techniques were applied to environmental samples from the Baltic region. Comprehensive sampling and analysis of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs) and polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDFs) in surface sediments in Swedish coastal and offshore areas resulted in a unique data set for this region. 2. 22. Towards Anti-Virulence Antimicrobials, Discovery and Development of Sortase A Inhibitors and Investigations of Bacterial Phenotypes

    Author : Patrick M. Wehrli; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Sortase A; SrtA; Inhibitors; Anti-virulence; Bacterial analysis; FTIR spectroscopy; Bacterial phenotyping; Design of Experiment; Multivariate Data Analysis; PCA; ToF-SIMS; Time-of-flight secondary-ion-mass-spectrometry; Lipid analysis; ppGpp; Stringent response;

    Abstract : Antibiotic resistance is an emerging and serious threat to public health. Immediate actions are required to preserve current antibiotics while intensifying research efforts towards the development of new effective therapeutics. READ MORE

  3. 23. Development of an Environment-Accident Index : A planning tool to protect the environment in case of a chemical spill

    Author : Åsa Scott Andersson; Mats Tysklind; Ingrid Fängmark; Olof Stjernström; Stellan Fisher; Per Leffler; Ronald Wennersten; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Environmental chemistry; Environment-Accident Index; Chemical Accidents; environmental effects; questionnaire; expert judgements; statistical multivariate design; PCA; PLS; Miljökemi; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi;

    Abstract : The increasing mass and complexity of chemicals being produced and transported has resulted in more rigorous demands on both authorities as well as chemical-handling industries to assess the risks involved. The Environment-Accident Index (EAI), has been proposed as a planning tool created as an equation in which chemical properties (variables describing the chemical involved) are combined with site-specific properties (variables describing the accident site). 4. 24. Omics Data Analysis of Complex Diseases and Traits

    Author : Saman Hosseini Ashtiani; Arne Elofsson; Dirk Repsilber; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Omics data; RNA-seq; Microarrays; Metabolomics; Network analysis; Psoriasis; E. coli; Hip osteoporosis; Lung adenocarcinoma; Spearman s correlation coefficient; LC-MS; PCA; DEG; PPI; biokemi med inriktning mot bioinformatik; Biochemistry towards Bioinformatics;

    Abstract : Following the advent of the high-throughput techniques for producing massive omics data, new possibilities and challenges have also emerged in different fields of biology and medicine. Dealing with such data on different scales with different scopes such as genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics and metabolomics, demands appropriate data collection, preprocessing, statistical analysis, interpretation and visualization.
