6. Atmospheric transport of persistent organic pollutants to aquatic ecosystems
Abstract : The load of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) is considered high in the Baltic ecosystem. The Baltic Sea spans over 12 latitudes and the regional differences in climate affect the behavior of POPs. READ MORE

7. Polychlorinated biphenyls and their metabolites in human blood : Method development, identification and quantification
Abstract : PCBs are well known environmental pollutants. They are also precursors to metabolites, as the hydroxy-PCBs and the methylsulfonyl-PCBs. This thesis presents a validated methodology for analysis of PCB metabolites and a structural identification of 38 hydroxy-PCBs in human blood. READ MORE

8. The Otter (Lutra lutra) in Sweden : Contaminants and Health
Abstract : In the 1950s the otter started to decline in numbers and distribution in Sweden and other parts of Europe. In 1972 a game law came into force, listing otter as a species that if found dead should be reported and sent to the authorities. The numbers of dead otters reported from different areas indicate population status and distribution. READ MORE

9. Analysis of PCBs with special emphasis on comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography of atropisomers
Abstract : There are 209 PCB congeners, 136 of which have been found in technical PCB mixtures and hence may be found in the environment as a result of either intentional or unintentional release. The identification and quantification of the congeners are difficult due to analytical bias from coeluting PCBs and other persistent organic pollutants. READ MORE

10. Waste incineration residues : Persistent organic pollutants in flue gas and fly ash from waste incineration
Abstract : Modern societies produce large quantities of municipal solid waste (MSW), which is commonly disposed of by incineration. This has several advantages: it reduces the waste’s volume and sterilizes it while also enabling energy recovery. READ MORE
