6. Molecular mechanism of plasmid copy number control in Yersinia
Abstract : The ability of pathogenic bacteria to cause disease depends on various virulence mechanisms. The three pathogenic species of Yersinia use a type III secretion system (T3SS) to translocate effector proteins into host cells and disrupt the immune system. This T3SS is encoded on a 70kb, low-copy, virulence plasmid. READ MORE

7. Percutaneous Nephrostomies : Planning for an Optimal Access, Complications, Follow-up and Outcome
Abstract : Percutaneous nephrostomy (PCN) is a well-established intervention performed to divert urine from the collecting system in ureteric obstruction or as a prelude to interventional procedures such as stent placement or percutaneous nephrolithotripsy (PCNL). The aim of this thesis is to enhance planning for an optimal insertion of PCN, investigate complications, long-term management, follow-up and outcome in patients with PCN treatment and to increase accuracy in CT-guided punctures. 8. Studies on organochlorine environmental contaminants with emphasis on analytical methods and occurrence in humans
Abstract : Methods for multicomponent analysis of lipophilic organochlorine contaminants(OCs) in blood plasma and lipid-rich tissues are presented. By using the described methods, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB), polychlorinated naphthalenes (PCN), hexachlorobenzene(HCB), 1,1-dichloro-2,2-bis(4 chlorophenyl)ethene (p,p'-DDE) and methylsulphonyl metabolites of PCB (MeSO2-PCB) and p,p'-DDE (Meso2-DDE) were determined in human blood plasma, adipose tissue and liver. 9. Properties and analysis of dioxin-like compounds in marine samples from Sweden
Abstract : Polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs) and dibenzofurans (PCDFs), and dioxin-like polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) have been assigned toxic equivalency factors (TEFs). These compounds are today routinely analysed with sophisticated analytical techniques. READ MORE

10. 2-acetylaminofluorene : metabolism and effects on drug-metabolizing enzymes
Abstract : 2-Acetylaminofluorene has been found to have two different kinds of effects on drug-metabolizing enzymes in rat liver :1. Short-term treatment with this compound induces the level of microsomal epoxide hydrolase and cytochromes P-450b+e, c, d and PB/PCN-E, with a concominant increase in the metabolism of 2-acetylaminoflurene itself.
