2. Aspects of hepatoduodenal trauma and fluid therapy in hemorrhagic shock
Abstract : Traumatic injury is the leading cause of death among young adults and children, accounting for 5 million deaths worldwide on an annual basis. In Sweden alone, 2500 individuals succumb to traumatic injuries yearly. Beyond the burden of death, injuries contribute to a large proportion of disability. READ MORE

3. Titrating Open Lung PEEP in Acute Lung Injury : A clinical method based on changes in dynamic compliance
Abstract : The recognition that supportive mechanical ventilation can also damage the lung, the so called ventilation induced lung injury (VILI), has revived the more than 40 year long debate on the optimal level of PEEP to be used. It is established that the prevention of VILI improves patient outcome and that PEEP exerts protective effects by preventing unstable diseased alveoli from collapsing. READ MORE

4. Monitoring alveolar recruitment in the critically ill - Patient studies using electric impedance tomography and volume-dependent compliance
Abstract : Background: Acute lung injury (ALI) and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) are associated with a high mortality rate and poor long term outcome in terms of quality of life, for those who survive. Similarly, patients with morbid obesity are at risk for respiratory complications when subjected to anaesthesia and surgery. READ MORE

5. Open lung concept in high risk anaesthesia : Optimizing mechanical ventilation in morbidly obese patients and during one lung ventilation with capnothorax
Abstract : Formation of atelectasis, defined as reversible collapse of aerated lung, often occurs after induction of anaesthesia with mechanical ventilation. As a consequence, there is a risk for hypoxemia, altered hemodynamics and impaired respiratory system mechanics. READ MORE
