1. Bringing fuel cells to reality and reality to fuel cells : A systems perspective on the use of fuel cells
Abstract : With growing awareness of global warming and fear of political instability caused by oil depletion, the need for a society with a sustainable energy system has been brought to the fore. A promising technology often mentioned as a key component in such a system is the fuel cell technology, i.e. READ MORE

2. On direct hydrogen fuel cell vehicles : modelling and demonstration
Abstract : In this thesis, direct hydrogen Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) fuel cell systems in vehicles are investigated through modelling, field tests and public acceptance surveys. A computer model of a 50 kW PEM fuel cell system was developed. The fuel cell system efficiency is approximately 50% between 10 and 45% of the rated power. READ MORE

3. Analysis of PEM Fuel Cell Stacks and Systems with Water/Thermal Balances
Abstract : The Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) fuel cell has been investigated for a long time, and is regarded as a new energy source for various applications, such as portable, stationary and automotive ones. However, due to the shortage of the infrastructure in the society, the high cost, the difficulty of the water/thermal management, etc. READ MORE

4. Structure, interactions and functionality in novel electrolyte materials for fuel cell applications
Abstract : It is today well known that fossil fuels will sooner or later be depleted, and the need to find alternative energy sources is now accepted. Among the diverse technologies developed to produce energy, considerable interest is currently directed to the hydrogen fuel cell, a device that converts chemical into electrical energy, is versatile and has a low environmental impact. 5. Microphase Separated Cation Conducting Polymers : Design, Synthesis, and Properties
Abstract : This thesis describes the synthesis and properties of five different cation conducting polymer systems. These systems were designed so that the polymers would be able to microphase separate into distinct phases with one phase for mechanical strength and one for ionic conductivity. READ MORE
