    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Amino acid insertions; Crystallography; polyamine pathway; drug design; enzyme inhibition; ITC; ligand binding; malaria; Plasmodium falciparum; S-Adenosylmethionine decarboxylase; spermidine synthase.;

    Abstract : Malaria, caused by the protozoan parasite Plasmodium falciparum is responsible for about 600.000 death cases every year. Mainly affected are populations of subtropical countries in Africa and the largest groups of victims are children below the age of 5 years. READ MORE

  2. 12. Biostimulant potential of agro-industrial side-streams - sustainable sugar beet cultivation and drought tolerance in wheat

    Author : Okanlawon Lekan Jolayemi; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The biostimulant potential of three agro-industrial side-streams (hydrolysed wheat gluten (HWG), potato protein (PP/PF) and the chitosan derivative KitoFlokk™ (KF/KF200) and two chitosan types (KA and KB) was compared to that of untreated controls and nutrient solution in trials with three sugar beet genotypes (Volga, Armesa, Mustang) and two spring wheat genotypes (204, 276).In general, 1-2 g/kg HWG or PP/PF applied as a soil mix enhanced sugar beet growth and physiology. Abstract : Otitis media (OM), one of the commonest of childhood diseases, causes much suffering. OM exists in a variety of forms, two of which are acute otitis media (AOM) and otitis media with effusion (OME). READ MORE

  4. 14. Prevention of Experimental Cataract Induced by UVR

    Author : Martin Kronschläger; Per Söderberg; Madeleine Zetterberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cataract; ultraviolet radiation; apoptosis; thioltransferase; caffeine;

    Abstract : Cataract is the leading cause of blindness in the world and is defined by opacification of the normally transparent lens of the eye. The major avoidable cause of cataract is ultraviolet radiation (UVR), but no current strategies have been developed to prevent the onset of cataract. READ MORE

  5. 15. Experiments, Computations and Models for Probabilistic HCF Design

    Author : Daniel Sandberg; Mårten Olsson; Gunnar Härkegård; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Hållfasthetslära; Solid Mechanics;

    Abstract : High Cycle Fatigue (HCF) failure is a common failure type for many mechanical components. Traditional HCF design is based on the deterministic safety factor approach, typically used in conjunction with the point stress method. READ MORE
