  1. 1. Spontaneous correction of fracture deformity : a study in the rat

    Author : Jian Li; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Fracture healing; bone modeling; bone turnover; GAP-43; PGP 9.5; CGRP;

    Abstract : The aim of the present study was to elaborate a model in the rat permitting analysis of bone modeling to correct fracture deformity. Among conceivable regulators of this process, the study focused on the peripheral nervous system by analyzing markers of regenerating (GAP-43), mature (PGP 9.5) and sensory (CGRP) nerve fibers at the fracture site. 2. 2. Endocrine and neuronal interactions in human cervical ripening

    Author : Ylva Stjernholm; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Estrogen receptor; progesterone receptor; IGF-I mRNA; thioredoxin; PGP 9.5. neuropeptides; dendritic cells;

    Abstract : Objective: To evaluate the hormonal and neuronal environment in human cervix during pregnancy and parturition. Methods: Cervical biopsy specimens were obtained transvaginally, and serum samples were drawn simultaneously. READ MORE

  3. 3. Studies on nerve terminations in human mucosa and skin

    Author : Marita Hilliges; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Epithelium; herpes simplex; immunohistochemisry; Merkel cell; mucosa; nerves; oral; PGP 9.5; skin; stereology; urinary incontinence; vagina.;

    Abstract : In spite of their accessibility and important sensory function, the nervous tissue components of human oral and vaginal mucosa and skin have been subject to very few, if any, systematic investigations. Studies on the innervation of oral tissues have mainly focused on the dental pulp, the periodontium and the gingiva, probably because of specific clinical interest, thus largely neglecting the mucosa. 4. 4. Immunocytochemical studies of cutaneous nerves in human normal and prurigo nodularis skin

    Author : Yong Liang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Axon; CGRP; ECP; EDN EPX; eosinophil; histamine; HLA-DR; immunoelectron microscopy; Langerhans cell; mast cell; NSE; nerve fiber; p75 NGFr; PGP 9.5; prurigo nodularis; S-100; Schwann cell;

    Abstract : Cutaneous nerves may regulate the immune system and be involved in inflammatory events of the skin. Prurigo nodularis is a skin disease which histologically reveals a massive neural hyperplasia and a local inflammation in the lesional skin. READ MORE

  5. 5. Neurohormonal Modulators in the Parathyroid Gland. Localization and regulation

    Author : Lena Luts; Malmö Patologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Receptor; In situ hybridization; Immunocytochemistry; Nitric Oxide Synthase; Endothelin; Neuropeptides; Chromogranin; Parathyroid adenoma; Parathyroid gland; Parathyroid hormone; mRNA; Endocrinology; secreting systems; diabetology; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi;

    Abstract : The occurrence and distribution of neurohormonal peptides, neuroendocrine markers and receptors in parathyroid nerve fibers and endocrine cells are described, using immunocytochemistry, in situ hybridization, image analysis and reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction. Immunocytochemical studies revealed that parathyroid glands of chicken, rat, guinea-pig, cat, dog and sheep contained adrenergic-, cholinergic-, and peptide-containing nerve fibers. READ MORE
