1. Hepatic Disposition of Drugs and the Utility of Mechanistic Modelling and Simulation
Abstract : The elimination of drugs from the body is in many cases performed by the liver. Much could be gained if an accurate prediction of this process could be made early in the development of new drugs. However, for the elimination to occur, the drug molecule needs first to get inside the liver cell. READ MORE

2. Development of Methods for Assessing Unbound Drug Exposure in the Brain : In vivo, in vitro and in silico
Abstract : The blood-brain barrier is formed by tightly joined capillary cells with transporter proteins and acts as to regulate the brain concentration of nutrients as well as many drugs. When developing central nervous system drugs it is necessary to measure the unbound drug concentration in the brain, i.e. the unbound brain exposure. READ MORE

3. Metabolism-dependent activation of food and environmental mutagens in endothelial cells
Abstract : The endothelial cells of blood vessels have been proposed as a target for toxic effects ofxenobiotics in the cardiovascular system. In the present studies, induction of cytochromeP450 1A (CYP1A) enzymes and metabolic activation of food and environmentalmutagens were examined in endothelial cells of rodents, birds, and humans. 4. Cytochrome P450 enzymes in the biosynthesis and metabolism of bile acids and active forms of vitamin D
Abstract : Cytochrome P450 enzymes catalyzing hydroxylations in the biosynthesis and metabolism of bile acids and active forms of vitamin D3 were studied.A microsomal cytochrome P450 enzyme with a molecular mass of 53 kDa, catalyzing the 6α-hydroxylation of taurochenodeoxycholic acid was purfied from pig liver microsomes and characterized with respect to catalytic and electrophoretic properties as well as polyclonal antibodies. 5. Common mechanism for teratogenicity of antiepileptic drugs : Drug-induced embryonic arrhythmia and hypoxia-reoxygenation damage
Abstract : The Antiepilptic drugs (AEDs) phenytoin (PHT), carbamazepine (CBZ), phenobarbital (PB), tri- and dimethadione (TMD and DMD) are known teratogens having a common malformation pattern in human and animal studies. This thesis was designed chiefly to test a hypothesis correlating the teratogenicity of these AEDs to episodes of pharmacologically induced embryonic arrhythmia and hypoxia-reoxygenation damage.
