  1. 11. Clinical Pharmacokinetics of the Antimalarial Artemisinin Based on Saliva Sampling

    Author : Toufigh Gordi; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutical biosciences; Artemisinin; pharmacokinetics; saliva; HPLC; pharmacodynamics; Farmaceutisk biovetenskap; Biopharmacy; Biofarmaci; Biopharmaceutics; biofarmaci;

    Abstract : Artemisinin is the parent compound of a novel family of antimalarials. Repetitive administrations of artemisinin to both healthy volunteers and malaria patients have been shown to result in decreased plasma concentrations of the compound, most probably due to an autoinduction of different CYP450 enzymes. 2. 12. Characterization of a site-specific gene-transfer mechanism in bacteria

    Author : Karin Hansson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutical biosciences; Farmaceutisk biovetenskap; Biopharmacy; Biofarmaci; Pharmaceutical Microbiology; farmaceutisk mikrobiologi;

    Abstract : Integrons capture and rearrange single genes borne on mobile units called cassettes using site-specific recombination. The integrons increase the variation of antibiotic resistance among bacterial plasmids and may also reorganize clustered genes in bacterial genomes. READ MORE

  3. 13. Cytochrome P450 Enzymes in the Metabolism of Vitamin D3

    Author : Fardin Hosseinpour; Leif Bertilsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutical biosciences; Farmaceutisk biovetenskap; Biopharmacy; Biofarmaci; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Abstract : A cytochrome P450 enzyme in pig kidney that catalyzes the hydroxylations of vitamin D3 and C27-sterols was cloned. DNA sequence analysis of the cDNA revealed that the enzyme belongs to the CYP27 family. The recombinant kidney CYP27A enzyme catalyzed the 25-hydroxylation of vitamin D3 and the 27-oxygenation of C27-sterols. READ MORE

  4. 14. Models for the Transfer of Drugs from the Nasal Cavity to the Central Nervous System

    Author : Björn Jansson; Erik Björk; Sveinbjörn Gizurarson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biopharmacy; Administration; intranasal; Nasal mucosa; Central nervous system; Olfactory bulb; Rat; Mouse; Swine; Cattle; Diffusion chambers; culture; In vitro; Biological models; Biological transport; Dextrans; Dopamine; Gels; Polysaccharides; Autoradiography; Fluorescence microscopy; Biofarmaci; Biopharmacy; Biofarmaci;

    Abstract : The blood-brain barrier restricts the access of many compounds, including therapeutic agents, to the brain. Several human studies indicate that nasal administration of hydrophilic compounds, such as peptides, can bypass the blood-brain barrier. The aims of this thesis were to develop and refine models for this direct nose-to-brain transfer. READ MORE

  5. 15. Design and stereoselective syntheses of Phe-Phe dipeptidomimetics

    Author : Annika Jenmalm Jensen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutical biosciences; Farmaceutisk biovetenskap; Biopharmacy; Biofarmaci; Organic Pharmaceutical Chemistry; organisk farmaceutisk kemi;

    Abstract : Several stereochemically well characterized Phe-Phe dipeptidomimetics have been designed and synthesized. The Phe-Phe vinyl isostere was used as a key intermediate. The synthesized series of mimetics includes two isomeric epoxides, four 1,2-dihydroxyethylene isomers, two isomeric allylic alcohols and two isomeric allylic fluorides. READ MORE
