  1. 21. Pharmaceutical binders and their function in directly compressed tablets : Mechanistic studies on the effect of dry binders on mechanical strength, pore structure and disintegration of tablets

    Author : Sofia Mattsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmacy; Compaction; tablet; binder; pore structure; disintegration; FARMACI; PHARMACY; FARMACI; farmaceutisk farmakologi; Pharmaceutical Pharmacology;

    Abstract : In this thesis, the strength-enhancing mechanisms of dry binders in direct compression were studied. The systems investigated were binary mixtures containing various compounds and binders. Among the binders used were a series of different molecular weights of polyethylene glycol. READ MORE

  2. 22. The effects of solid state properties on solubility and "in vitro" dissolution behaviour of suspended sparingly soluble drugs

    Author : Mitra Mosharraf; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmacy; FARMACI; PHARMACY; FARMACI; galenisk farmaci; Pharmaceutics;

    Abstract : The solubility and dissolution behaviour of hydrophobic and hydrophilic sparingly soluble drugs is discussed in this thesis. The roles of varying particle dimensions, disordered (amorphous) solid structures and the coexistence of amorphous and crystalline phases, especially on the surfaces of particles with a crystalline core, are evaluated in this context. 3. 23. Compression mechanics of pharmaceutical aggregates : Studies on the tabletting of spheronised aggregates with varying composition and porosity

    Author : Fredrik Nicklasson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmacy; FARMACI; PHARMACY; FARMACI; galenisk farmaci; Pharmaceutics;

    Abstract : The thesis investigated the tabletting behaviour of aggregates of different porosity and material composition, and focused on the role of the compression mechanics of the aggregates as a link between their structure and composition and the structure and functionality of tabletsformed from them. The aggregates studied all responded to compression by deformation and densification. READ MORE

  4. 24. Clinical pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic modelling of 5a-reductase inhibitors for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia

    Author : Per Olsson Gisleskog; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmacy; FARMACI; PHARMACY; FARMACI; Biopharmaceutics; biofarmaci;

    Abstract : Dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a potent androgen necessary for the development of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is formed from testosterone by the enzyme 5α-reductase, of which there are two types. The irreversible 5α-reductase inhibitors dutasteride, which inhibits both isozymes, and finasteride, which inhibits only one, are intended for the treatment of BPH. READ MORE

  5. 25. Particle interactions and internal tablet structure : Factors affecting the mechanical strength of pharmaceutical compacts

    Author : Helena Olsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmacy; FARMACI; PHARMACY; FARMACI; galenisk farmaci; Pharmaceutics;

    Abstract : A simple tablet model was utilised to identify parameters responsible for tablet compactibility. In this model tablets were considered as homogeneous and isotropic aggregates of individual spherical particles. If the particles were located close enough to each other, interparticulate bonds were assumed to be developed. READ MORE
