1. Cell Membrane Homeostasis in Mammals - The roles of ADIPOR2 and TLCD1 & 2
Abstract : Ten nanometers. That is the approximate thickness of the plasma membrane that separates the extracellular space from the entire cellular machinery. An asymmetrical bilayer consisting of predominantly phospholipids in which proteins and carbohydrates are anchored and exert their function. READ MORE

2. Ellipsometry studies of liquid interfaces: New methodology and applications
Abstract : Adsorption of several surface active agents, such as nonionics, diblock copolymers, triblock copolymers, proteins and phospholipids at the oil/water and air/water has been studied. In order to be able to do this, a new ellipsometry setup, which utilizes light guides, was developed and tested. READ MORE

3. Fatty Acid Composition in Skeletal Muscle : Influence of Physical Activity and Dietary Fat Quality
Abstract : Insulin sensitivity is related to the fatty acid profile of skeletal muscle. The aim of this thesis was to investigate whether physical activity and dietary fat quality, independent of each other, influence the fatty acid composition of the skeletal muscle lipids. READ MORE

4. Organic phosphorus speciation in environmental samples : Method development and applications
Abstract : This thesis investigates the development of new methodology for the identification and quantification of organic phosphorus compounds in environmental samples.Phosphorus is a vital element for primary production and one of the factors contributing to eutrophication. READ MORE

5. Biomimetic Membranes: : Molecular Structure and Stability Studies by Vibrational Sum Frequency Spectroscopy
Abstract : In the research presented in this licentiate thesis the surface specific technique Vibrational Sum Frequency Spectroscopy, VSFS, combined with the Langmuir trough has been utilized to investigate Langmuir monolayers and Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) deposited mono- and bilayers of phospholipids. Their molecular structure, stability, and hydration were probed to gain additional understanding of important properties aiming at facilitating the use of such layers as model systems for biological membranes.
