  1. 1. Beyond carbon-limitation : A re-evaluation of the ecological role of photorespiration and direct oxygen photoreduction in seagrasses

    Author : Pimchanok Buapet; Mats Björk; Ilana Berman-Frank; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Carbon limitation; Chlorophyll fluorescence; Electron transport rate; Irradiance; Mehler reaction; Non-photochemical quenching; Photorespiration; Photosynthetic activity; Plant Physiology; växtfysiologi;

    Abstract : Seagrasses living in shallow coastal waters are regularly subjected to changes in environmental conditions including the two essential factors for photosynthesis: dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) and irradiance. This thesis focuses on the photosynthetic responses of seagrasses to carbon limitation induced by community metabolism and/or high light intensities. READ MORE

  2. 2. Dye/Semiconductor Interfaces : An Electron Spectroscopic Study of Systems for Solar Cell and Display Applications

    Author : Karin Westermark; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physics; Dye-sensitized; nanostructured; electron spectroscopy; Fysik; Physics; Fysik; fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : The properties relevant for electron transfer processes between dye molecules and semiconductor substrates, titanium dioxide (TiO2) and zinc oxide (ZnO), have been studied by means of photoelectron spectroscopy, PES, near edge X-ray absorption spectroscopy, NEXAFS, and resonant photoemission, RPES.For dye-sensitized solar cells, the currently used dyes are ruthenium polypyridine complexes adsorbed to the semiconductor via carboxyl linker groups. Abstract : Plants and other green organisms harvest sunlight by green chlorophyll pigments and covertit to chemical energy (sugars) and oxygen in a process called photosynthesis providing the foundation for life on Earth. Although it is unanimously believed that oceanic phytoplanktons are the main contributors to the global photosynthesis, the contribution of coniferous boreal forests distributed across vast regions of the northern hemisphere cannot be undermined. 4. 4. Structure and functional studies of plant cell wall degrading enzymes : glycoside hydrolase family 3 β-glucosidases and lytic polysaccharide monooxygenases

    Author : Mikael Gudmundsson; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Presently, plant biomass is considered as one of the major future renewable sources for the production of second-generation biofuels. While the first generation biofuels essentially are based on starch and sucrose rich feed stocks and which production may compete with food production, the second-generation biofuels may be based on lignocellulose as feedstock, which is less problematic from an ethical point of view. 5. 5. MECHANISMS OF ENHANCED ACTIVITY OF MODEL TiO2/CARBON and TiO2/METAL NANOCOMPOSITE PHOTOCATALYSTS

    Author : Raja Sellappan; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Photocatalysis; graphite; solar energy conversion; graphene; localized surface plasmon resonance; photocatalytic mechanisms; nanocomposites; TiO2; carbon;

    Abstract : TiO2 is the most widely used photocatalyst for energy and environmental applications because of its outstanding physical and chemical properties. However, the quantum efficiency of TiO2 is greatly diminished by fast electron-hole pairs recombination and light absorption only in the UV region. READ MORE
