  1. 11. Role of AKT/ PKB and 14-3-3 in the regulation of B cell receptor signaling and signalosome assembly

    Author : Dara Mohammad; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : AKT/PKB is an oncogenic serine/threonine kinase regulated via the PI3K pathways. 14-3-3s represent a large group of adaptor proteins that are known to interact with a plethora of signaling proteins and regulate diverse signal transduction pathways. READ MORE

  2. 12. Cisplatin-resistance and cell death in malignant pleural mesothelioma cells

    Author : Veronica Janson; Kjell Grankvist; Roger Henriksson; Parviz Behnam-Motlagh; Anders Johansson; Boris Zhivotovsky; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; apoptosis; BH3-only proteins; caspase; cell morphology; potassium transport; protein kinase B PKB Akt ; signalling pathways; time; Clinical chemistry; Klinisk kemi;

    Abstract : Malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM) is an aggressive, treatment-resistant tumour. Cisplatin (cis-diamminedichloroplatinum (II)) is the best single-agent chemotherapy for MPM, but platinum-based combination therapies give the best overall response rates. However, cisplatin use is limited by resistance and severe side effects. READ MORE

  3. 13. Hormone-Sensitive Lipase and Protein Kinase B; Molecular characterization in testis, adipose tissue and pancreatic beta cells

    Author : Lena Stenson; Signaltransduktionsforskning; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; signal transduction; pancreas; beta cells; adipocyte; insulin; Akt; protein kinase B; spermatogenesis; cholesterol esterase; hormone-sensitive lipase; testis; cAMP; Proteins; enzymology; Proteiner; enzymologi;

    Abstract : Hormone-sensitive lipase (HSL) and protein kinase B (PKB) are enzymes that in different ways are associated with lipid metabolism. While HSL is the well-known lipolytic enzyme responsible for hydrolysis of stored triacylglycerols in adipose tissue, PKB is a recently identified serine/threonine protein kinase, ubiquitously expressed and involved in signal transduction pathways induced by insulin and growth factors. 4. 14. Role of inositol pyrophosphates in pancreatic beta cell function

    Author : Subu Surendran Rajasekaran; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Inositol pyrophosphates are high energy diphosphate containing molecules that are ubiquitous in eukaryotic cells. They have been implicated in diverse cellular processes ranging from DNA repair, telomere length regulation, ribosome synthesis, cell cycle regulation and apoptosis to osmoregulation, phosphate homeostasis, insulin sensitivity, vesicle trafficking, cytoskeletal rearrangement and exocytosis. 5. 15. Cyclic Nucleotide Phosphodiesterase 3B: Regulation in rat adipocytes and 3T3-L1 cells

    Author : Tova Landström; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; 3T3-L1 TNF-alpha; adipocyte; insulin; p70S6 kinase; mitogen-activated protein kinase; protein kinase B; phosphatidylinositol-3 kinase; phosphodiesterase 3B; cAMP; lipolysis; phosphorylation; signal transduction; Biochemistry; Metabolism; Biokemi; metabolism;

    Abstract : Insulin stimulation of rat adipocytes results in phosphorylation and activation of the cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterase 3B (PDE3B), a key enzyme in the antilipolytic signalling pathway of this hormone. In this thesis, the site phosphorylated in PDE3B upon stimulation of rat adipocytes with insulin and/or the beta-adrenergic agonist, isoproterenol is identified. READ MORE
