    Abstract : This dissertation examines how fashion media discourses created the conditions through which the fat, female body was both known and constructed within the context of the early large-size garment industry in the United States, or what between the years 1915 and 1930 was known as “stoutwear.” Drawing on a wide array of media sources, including women’s and fashion magazines, trade journals, catalogs and style guides, and employing Michel Foucault’s archaeological method, the dissertation examines the productive nature of fashion discourse in the construction and constitution of the fleshy body, or how the discourses of stoutwear brought order to the disorderly, fat, female body. 2. 2. The Role of Projected Anatomy, Random Noise, and Spatial Resolution on Clinical Image Quality in Digital Mammography

    Author : Mark Ruschin; Malmö Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; 3D breast imaging; Clinical physics; radiology; tomography; medical instrumentation; Klinisk fysiologi; hybrid images; dose reduction; spatial resolution; pixel size; Breast cancer; digital mammography; radiologi; tomografi; medicinsk instrumentering; breast tomosynthesis;

    Abstract : Due to the recent advances in digital detector technology, there is an increasing trend in the use of digital mammography (DM) as a concurrent modality with screen-film mammography (SFM). In order to fully realize its potential, the components of a DM system should be optimized with respect to clinical image quality in order for clinicians to make accurate diagnoses. READ MORE

  3. 3. On healing after periapical surgery and different retrograde root-filling materials. A clinical and histological study

    Author : Dan-Åke Wälivaara; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : periapical surgery; ultrasonic preparation; IRM; thermoplasticized gutta-percha; Super-EBA; mineral trioxide aggregate; root-filling status; lesion size; lesion type;

    Abstract : Aims: The outcome from conventional endodontic therapy does not always result in a healing of the periapical area, thus leaving a remaining lesion with or without symptoms. The primary treatment alternative is a revision of the orthograde root-filling if applicable. A second treatment alternative might be a periapical surgery procedure. READ MORE

  4. 4. Cardiovascular dysfunction in obstructive sleep apnea

    Author : Holger Kraiczi; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Obstructive sleep apnea; blood pressure; cardiac size; left ventricular function; endothelium-dependent vasodilation; forearm vascular conductance; natriuretic peptides;

    Abstract : This thesis addresses relationships between the presence or severity of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and blood pressure (BP) as well as other signs of cardiovascular dysfunction.In a cross-sectional investigation of a sleep laboratory cohort of 81 patients, a dose response relationship was observed between the number of apneas plus hypopneas per hour of sleep (apnea-hypopnea index, AHI; measured with polysomnography) and office systolic and diastolic BP (SBP and DBP), daytime ambulatory DBP as well as nighttime ambulatory SBP and DBP (all ambulatory measurements taken at 20-minute intervals).
