  2. 7. From source to the environment : Strategies for identification and determination of hydroxylated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in complex particulate matrices

    Author : Rozanna Avagyan; Roger Westerholm; Conny Östman; Marja-Liisa Riekkola; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; OH-PAHs; hydroxy-PAHs; particulate matter; PM; airborne particles; combustion particles; wood combustion; suspect screening; non-target screening; high resolution mass spectrometry; HRMS; atmospheric pressure photoionization; APPI; Analytical Chemistry; analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : Adverse health effects have been linked to exposure to particulate matter, and wood combustion is considered as an important source of harmful particulate matter in the urban air and environment. Hydroxylated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons are a group of compounds with toxic, endocrine disrupting and carcinogenic properties. READ MORE

  3. 8. The Tropospheric Aerosol - Measurements and Modelling. Case studies in Tanzania and Southeast Asia and development of models for size resolved aerosol simulations on the regional scale

    Author : Cecilia Bennet; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Aerosol; PM; Source assignment; Chemical Transport Modelling; Model inter-comparison; Sea salt emissions and Aerosol dynamics;

    Abstract : The tropospheric aerosol is a complex constituent of the atmosphere that has impacts on health and the climate. This thesis presents five different studies from Tanzania, Southeast Asia and Europe dealing with urban measurements of particle mass and elemental composition, regional scale modelling of ozone and particle mass of inorganic aerosols and development of modules for sea salt emissions and size resolved aerosol particles with aerosol dynamical mechanisms implemented in a regional scale chemistry and transport model (CTM). 4. 9. Particulate Formation in Gasoline Direct Injection Engines

    Author : Sreelekha Etikyala; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; PM; Volatileorganic compounds; Gasoline Direct Injection; Particulate Number; Alternate fuels;

    Abstract : Gasoline direct injection (GDI) engines are facing a great challenge because of the need to comply with increasingly stringent emission regulations while improving fuel economy. GDI engines are popularly known for their high fuel efficiency (by the standards of gasoline engines) and low emissions, enabling higher compression ratios and thus increased volumetric efficiency. 5. 10. Particulate Formation in GDI Engines

    Author : Sreelekha Etikyala; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; PM; Alternate fuels; Gasoline Direct Injection; internal combustion engines; Particulate Number; Load transients;

    Abstract : The need to comply with stringent emission regulations while improving fuel economy and reducing criteria pollutant emissions from transportation presents a major challenge in the design of gasoline Direct Injection (DI) engines because of the adverse effects of ultrafine Particulate Number (PN) emissions on human health and other environmental concerns. With upcoming advances in vehicle electrification, it may be the case that electric vehicles completely replace all current vehicles powered by internal combustion engines ensuring zero emissions.
