  1. 1. Non-Exhaust PM10 and Road Dust

    Author : Joacim Lundberg; Sigurdur Erlingsson; Mats Gustafsson; Sara Janhäll; Göran Blomqvist; Brynhild Snilsberg; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Road Dust; Abrasion Wear; Road Surface Macro Texture; Mean Profile Depth; Mean Texture Depth; Emissions; Abrasion Wear Model; NORTRIP; PM10; Air Quality; Particles; Vägdamm; Vägslitage; Dubbslitage; Textur; Emissioner; Slitagemodell; NORTRIP; PM10; Partiklar; Luftkvalitet; Byggvetenskap; Civil and Architectural Engineering; 15 Road: Environment;

    Abstract : Non-exhaust PM10 is an issue in the urban environment linked to health issues. Emissions of non-exhaust PM10 is relatable to pavement properties. Also of importance is resuspension of road dust stored from surfaces. This depends on the traffic and metrological conditions. READ MORE

  2. 2. Aerosol Particle Sources Affecting the Swedish Air Quality at Urban and Rural Level

    Author : Adam Kristensson; Kärnfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; wood combustion; traffic; long distance transport; nucleation; urban; background; PM2.5; PM10; source contribution; PIXE; Physics; Environmental technology; Fysik; pollution control; emissions; Aerosol particle; sources; Miljöteknik; kontroll av utsläpp; size distribution; Fysicumarkivet A 2005:Kristensson;

    Abstract : During the last decades anthropogenic aerosol particles have attracted much attention due to their adverse health effects and their influence of climate change, and in Sweden, there are mainly three aerosol sources that affect the air quality; domestic wood combustion, traffic, and long distance transport, which includes new particle formation. This work concerns the characterization of these sources and an estimate of how much they contribute to the aerosol particle number (ToN) and mass concentrations (PM) in Swedish cities and at background locations. 3. 3. Measuring occupational dust exposure with a passive sampler

    Author : Mariam Shirdel; Ingvar Bergdahl; Britt Andersson; Håkan Wingfors; Christer Johansson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; dust particles; mineral; PM10; PM2.5; respirable fraction; UNC passive aerosol sampler; working environment;

    Abstract : Objectives: In a working environment it is important to measure dust exposure to evaluate possible health issues. Passive sampling could be an alternative to active sampling with pumps when measuring occupational dust exposure. One passive sampler is the University of North Carolina passive aerosol sampler (UNC sampler). READ MORE

    Abstract : Luftburna partiklar (PM) är ett problem för människans hälsa, där flertalet samband mellan negativa hälsoeffekter finns mellan luftföroreningar finns, bland annat för respiratoriska sjukdomar, lungcancer och kardiovaskulära sjukdomar med flera. I länder där dubbdäck används, till exempel Sverige, Finland och Norge, och sandning av vägar och gator genomförs vintertid för att säkerställa god friktion kommer en betydande andel av partiklarna från vägslitage och nedkrossning av sand vilket bidrar till PM10. 5. 5. Evaluation of Dust Suppressants for Gravel Roads : Methods Development and Efficiency Studies

    Author : Karin Edvardsson; Björn Birgisson; Andrew Dawson; KTH; []
    Keywords : Gravel road; dust; particulate matter; PM10; horizontal dust diffusion; deteriorations; maintenance; dust control; dust suppressants; efficiency; application rate; leaching; residual concentration; seasonal variations; salt solution; solid salt; calcium chloride; magnesium chloride; lignosulphonate; polysaccharide sugar ; bitumen emulsion; rape oil; starch; surfactant; mesa; clay; fine material content;

    Abstract : Approximately 75 percent (300 000 km) of the total Swedish road network and 20 percent(20 000 km) of the national road network consists of gravel roads. One of the most significantproblems associated with gravel roads is traffic-generated dust emission, which contributes tothe deterioration of the road surface and acts as a major source of particulate matter releasedinto the atmosphere, thereby involving public economics, road safety, human health, andenvironmental quality.
