6. Design and Assessment of HVDC Off-shore Wind Turbine Generator
Abstract : In this work, design and assessment of a 5 MW wind energy generator with a gearbox is performed to find an energy-efficient generator for HVDC offshore wind turbines, studying aninterior permanent magnet synchronous generator (IPMSG) as well as a permanent magnetassisted synchronous reluctance generator (PMa-SynRG). Quantities such as torque density, torque ripple, losses and amount of magnet material are studied. READ MORE

7. Polyelectrolytes and Polycomplexes in Biotechnology
Abstract : Polyelectrolytes and polyelectrolyte complexes (PECs) are characterized by many useful properties that endow them with high potential in different areas of biotechnology. This thesis describes the development and analyses of some new systems and methods utilizing poly(acrylic acid) (PAA), poly(methacrylic acid) (PMA), poly (N-ethyl-4-vinylpyridinium bromide) (PEVP) and PMA-PEVP complexes. 8. Magnetodynamics in Spin Valves and Magnetic Tunnel Junctions with Perpendicular and Tilted Anisotropies
Abstract : Spin-torque transfer (STT) effects have brought spintronics ever closer to practical electronic applications, such as MRAM and active broadband microwave spin-torque oscillator (STO), and have emerged as an increasingly attractive field of research in spin dynamics. Utilizing materials with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (PMA) in such applications offers several great advantages such as low-current, low-field operation combined with high thermal stability. 9. Granulocyte Adhesion to Matrix Proteins and the Effect on the Release of Granule Proteins : Development of a Simple Method and its Application in Experimental and Clinical Studies
Abstract : Granulocyte adhesion and release of their granule proteins are key steps during selective accumulation of a certain cell to an inflammatory site. Eosinophils are specifically recruited to sites of allergic inflammation and parasitic infection, whereas neutrophil influx predominates in bacterial infection and rheumatoid arthritis. READ MORE

10. Engineering Magnetic Droplets in Nanocontact Spin-Torque Nano-Oscillators
Abstract : Spin-torque nano-oscillators (STNOs) are nanoscale spintronic devices capable of generating highly tunable broadband microwave signals. In this thesis, I study nanocontact (NC)-based STNOs using strong perpendicular magnetic anisotropy(PMA) free layers, where a novel magnetic soliton—a magnetic droplet—exists. READ MORE
