16. The role of anti-collagen type II antibodies in the pathogenesis and prognosis of rheumatoid arthritis
Abstract : Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) which affects 0.5-1% of the world population and is characterised by joint erosions and presence of the autoantibodies anti-citrullinated protein antibodies (ACPA) and rheumatoid factor. READ MORE

17. Nano-porous Alumina, a Potential Bone Implant Coating
Abstract : This thesis describes a method of growing a highly adherent nano-porous alumina coating on titanium implant materials, a design which might be useful in hard tissue replacement. Alumina layers were formed by anodisation of aluminium, which had been deposited on titanium and titanium alloys by electron beam evaporation. READ MORE

18. Effects of a single prolonged milking interval in cows : study of indicators and mediators of inflammation, milk composition and yield
Abstract : A single prolonged milking interval (PMI), such as might be associated with technical failures in automatic milking systems, leads to a subsequent somatic cell count (SCC) peak in bulk tank milk. Increased SCC indicates mastitis in cows. READ MORE

19. Functional and structural characterization of integrins and their ligands ICAM-2, vitronectin and fibronectin in leukocytes
Abstract : Transient adhesion of leukocytes to cells and extracellular matrices is a crucial process in leukocyte physiology. Cell surface adhesion molecules such as integrins and members of the immunoglobulin (Ig) superfamily are involved. READ MORE

20. Computer simulations of ribosome reactions
Abstract : Peptide bond formation and translational termination on the ribosome have been simulated by molecular mechanics, free energy perturbation, empirical valence bond (MD/FEP/EVB) and automated docking methods. Recent X-ray crystallographic data is used here to calculate the entire free energy surface for the system complete with substrates, ribosomal groups, solvent molecules and ions. READ MORE
