  1. 1. Controlled release gel formulations and preclinical screening of drug candidates

    Author : Tofeeq Ur-Rehman; Gerhard Gröbner; Mikael Elofsson; Åsa Gylfe; Martin Malmsten; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; poloxamer; drug delivery; micellization; DMSO; calorimetry; NMR. in situ gelation; chitosan; preclinical pharmacokinetics; type III secretion inhibitors; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi; Pharmaceutics; galenisk farmaci;

    Abstract : Simple gel formulations may be applied to enhance the systemic and local exposure of potential compounds. The aim of this thesis is the development and characterization of controlled release formulations based on thermo-reversible poloxamer gels, which are suitable for novel drug delivery applications. 2. 2. Ternary Block Copolymer - Water - "Oil" Systems: Effects of "Oil" Type and Block Size on Phase Behaviour and Structure

    Author : Peter Holmqvist; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; poly propylene oxide ; poly ethylene oxide ; poloxamer; micelles; lyotropic liquid crystals; SAXS; structure; phase behavior; self-assembly; block copolymers; amphiphiles; poly tetrahydrofurane ; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : It has recently been established in our group that amphiphilic block copolymers consisting of a hydrophilic and a hydrophobic part can self-assemble in the presence of selective solvents (“water” and “oil”) into a variety of different solution and lyotropic liquid crystalline microstructures. The effects of the “oil” type, hydrophilic block size and hydrophobic block type on the phase behavior and microstructure of ternary isothermal copolymer - oil - water systems have been addressed in this thesis. 4. 4. Spray-Dried Powders for Inhalation : Particle Formation and Formulation Concepts

    Author : Jessica Elversson; Göran Alderborn; Anna Millqvist-Fureby; Lars Hovgaard; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutics; Spray drying; Particle formation; Density; Protein formulation; Encapsulation; Coating; Competitive adsorption; Polymer; ESCA; AFM; FTIR; Galenisk farmaci; Pharmaceutics; Galenisk farmaci;

    Abstract : Spray drying is a method with a high potential in the preparation of protein particles suitable for pulmonary delivery. However, surface induced denaturation of bio-molecules during atomization and subsequent drying can be substantial and it is therefore important to develop new formulation concept for concurrent encapsulation and stabilization of proteins during spray drying. 5. 5. Preparation and characterisation of biodegradable microspheres for the delivery of bioactive compounds

    Author : Cecilia Sturesson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmacy; FARMACI; PHARMACY; FARMACI; galenisk farmaci; Pharmaceutics;

    Abstract : The incorporation of bioactive compounds into biodegradable polymer microspheres has several advantages. Firstly, the drug substance is protected from physiological degradation. Secondly, using microspheres from polymers with different degradation mechanisms, it is possible to design different release profiles with desired release rates. READ MORE
