  1. 16. Molecular pathways mediating the development of female germ cells

    Author : Sanjiv Risal; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ovary; primordial follicles; primordial germ cells; Oogonial stem cells;

    Abstract : In mice, primordial germ cells (PGCs) dramatically increase in their number from 200 cells at 9.5 dpc to 10 000 cells at 12.5 dpc with doubling time of 12.6 hours. READ MORE

  2. 17. Akt signaling and coordinated changes in the distribution and expression of Akt-regulating phosphatases

    Author : Aram Ghalali; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Cancer is one of the major causes of death worldwide. The PI3K/Akt signaling pathway is up-regulated in a variety of human cancers. Akt is an important signaling molecule in cellular survival pathways. Activated Akt (pAkt) is able to induce protein synthesis pathways, and is therefore a key protein involved in growth and prevention of apoptosis. READ MORE

  3. 18. LKB1 signaling pathways in adipocytes - Focus on the AMPK-related kinase SIK2

    Author : Emma Henriksson; Proteinfosforylering; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; adipocytes; signal transduction; protein phosphorylation; LKB1; SIK2; SIK3; cAMP;

    Abstract : Adipose tissue does not only store and release energy in response to hormones, it is also known as an endocrine organ, secreting important factors and hormones that influence for example appetite and insulin sensitivity. The association of type 2 diabetes with obesity has been known for quite some time. READ MORE

  4. 19. Transcriptional regulation of the latent membrane protein 1 gene by Epstein-Barr virus nuclear antigen 2

    Author : Lars Palmqvist; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Epstein-Barr virus; B-cell; transformation; LMP1; EBNA2; transcription; phosphorylation; histone acetylation;

    Abstract : The Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is a ubiquitous human herpes virus, which infects B-cells. This leads to a life-long latent infection, which in most cases is non-pathogenic. However, EBV is etiologically associated with several human malignancies, including endemic Burkitt's lymphoma, nasopharyngeal carcinoma and post-transplant lymphoma. READ MORE

  5. 20. The Lysosomal-Mitochondrial Axis Theory of Apoptosis

    Author : Ming Zhao; Sten Orrenius; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : In many cases, apoptosis may be initiated by a minor lysosomal destabilization, which some time later is followed by a secondary, more pronounced, lysosomal rupture. After exposure to low concentrations of sphingosine, a lysosomotropic detergent, Jurkat and J774 cells underwenr apoptotic cell death, while cells exposed to higher concentrations of this agent showed necrosis.
