6. p38 MAPK Signalling in Endothelial Apoptosis
Abstract : Endothelial apoptosis plays an important role in atherosclerosis, and a direct proapoptotic effect of chemotherapeutics on the tumour vasculature, emphasizes the great potency of antiangiogenic therapy in the treatment of cancer. We investigated signalling pathways in endothelial apoptosis induced by the inflammatory cytokine tumour necrosis factor alpha (TNF), the main target of which is the endothelium, and by the anticancer drug doxorubicin. 7. Viral Control of SR Protein Activity
Abstract : Viruses modulate biosynthetic machineries of the host cell for a rapid and efficient virus replication. One important way of modulating protein activity in eukaryotic cells is by reversible phosphorylation. In this thesis we have studied adenovirus and vaccinia virus, two DNA viruses with different replication stategies. READ MORE

8. The developing rat kidney : the dopamine system and related serine/threonine kinases and phosphatases
Abstract : The kidney originates from the fusion and conversion of two tissues: the metanephric mesenchyme and the ureter epithelium, an evagination from the Wolffian duct. Although a number of candidate molecules have been shown to be of importance for the differentiation of the embryonic kidney, many of the signalling pathway leading to this development are still obscure. 9. Structural and functional studies of proteins in cell signaling and cancer
Abstract : Cancer is one of the most common causes of death in the western world. Cancer is an umbrella term for over 100 different diseases all caused by mutations in cells leading to uncontrolled cell division and metastasis. The control of the cell division is extremely important in order to maintain homeostasis and avoid development of cancer. READ MORE

10. Genomic and non-genomic effects of a new sodium-sensing network in renal and lung epithelia
Abstract : Sodium and water homeostasis is crucial for cell function, survival and health of the individual. The kidney is responsible for sodium regulation in the body, balancing sodium secretion and reabsorption, and thereby also regulating the blood pressure, primarily via the Na+, K -ATPase. READ MORE
