11. Clinical and experimental studies on the diaphragm during physiological and pathophysio-logical conditions
Abstract : The diaphragm is the most important respiratory muscle. It separates the thorax from the abdomen and it is innervated by phrenic nerve. READ MORE

12. Changes in human uterine innervation in term pregnancy and labor occurence and roles of neurotrophins and TRPV1
Abstract : Objective: Cervical ripening, is a prerequisite for successful labor, which is often very painful and involves an inflammatory reaction. However, little is presently known con-cerning nerve-related changes in the human uterus during labor and the fundamental hy-pothesis tested here was that labor pain emanates primarily from the cervix uteri. 13. Surviving trauma in exile and the integration-conundrum : navigating therapy and the imperatives of a host(ile?) society
Abstract : “Undesirables” of the contemporary world (Agier, 2008), refugees are often considered “Others” whose lives can be wasted, at deadly borders, in detention centers, or at the margins of societies. Proving their suffering is a condition for accessing the right to asylum, but the current migration policies in the host countries expect them to quickly overcome it, and integrate, as a way to pay back for the protection they received. 14. Combining ab‐initio and machine learning techniques for theoretical simulations of hard nitrides at extreme conditions
Abstract : In this thesis I focus on combining the high accuracy of first-principles calculations with modern machine learning methods to make large scale investigations of industrially relevant nitride systems reliable and computationally viable. I study the electronic, thermodynamic and mechanical properties of two families of compounds: Ti1−xAlxN alloys at the operational conditions of industrial cutting tools and ReNx systems at crushing pres-sures comparable to inner earth core conditions. 15. Turbulence-resolving Simulations of Swirling Flows
Abstract : A series of numerical investigations is undertaken using a wide range of turbulence mod-els including conventional and non-conventional URANS models, hybrid URANS-LESmethods and LES to capture a large variety of physical mechanisms that produce pres-sure pulsations in the swirling flows. The available knowledge about these pulsations, which are usual in hydropower, are still far from complete. READ MORE
