  1. 1. Primary Hyperparathyroidism - Aspects on skeletal Involvemnt and PTH levels after Surgery

    Author : Erik Nordenström; Lund Kirurgi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; traumatology; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi; orthopaedics; Surgery; PTH infusion; PTH levels; Densitometry; Bone density; Primary hyperparathyroidism; Skeletal;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to evaluate risk factors for fractures in patients with primary hyperparathyroidism (pHPT), to study the association between preoperative variables and postoperative changes in bone density and to investigate long-term changes and peripheral PTH sensitivity in patients with elevated PTH levels after surgery. 203 pHPT patients were investigated with regard to clinical and biochemical variables and bone density. 2. 2. Calcium Homeostasis After Thyroid Surgery

    Author : Pia Lindblom; Lund Kirurgi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; PTH-peripheral effects; hPTH- 1-34 infusion; EDTA infusion; Set-point; Vitamin D3; PTH; Calcium; Thyroid surgery; Postoperative hypocalcemia; Bone density.; Surgery; orthopaedics; traumatology; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi; Reduced thyroid hormones;

    Abstract : Calcium homeostasis after thyroid surgery was studied during the immediate postoperative period and after one year. One day after hemithyroidectomy ionised calcium decreased whereas basal PTH did not change. EDTA stimulated maximal and total PTH secretion and set-point decreased on postoperative day 1 and normalised on day 7. READ MORE

  3. 3. Parathyroid hormone for bone repair and implant fixation - Experiment in rats

    Author : Ralf Skripitz; Lund Ortopedi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; PMMA-cement; torque; tensile tesst; Bone conduction chamber; PTH; rats; Surgery; orthopaedics; traumatology; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi;

    Abstract : Intermittently administered PTH is known to increase bone mass in osteoporosis models. We studied its effects in bone repair and implant fixation, using histological and mechanical techniques in rats. READ MORE

  4. 4. Interaction between Calcium, Calciotropic Hormones and the Gastrin-ECL-cell Axis

    Author : Rebecca Gagnemo Persson; Hälsofrämjande komplexa interventioner; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; pharmacognosy; Pharmacological sciences; rat; chicken; parathyroid gland; stomach; vitamin D; PTH; CT; calciotropic hormones; Gastrin; calcium; ECL cell; pharmacy; toxicology; Farmakologi; farmakognosi; farmaci; toxikologi; Histology; cytochemistry; histochemistry; tissue culture; Histologi; cytokemi; histokemi; vävnadskultur;

    Abstract : Calcium homeostasis involves mainly the interaction of PTH, vitamin D and CT. The stomach may be important for calcium homeostasis. Gastric acid is thought to mobilize calcium from the diet, thereby facilitating the absorption of calcium in the small intestines. READ MORE

  5. 5. Fibroblast growth factor-23 and Klotho in bone/mineral and parathyroid disorders

    Author : Tijana Krajisnik; Tobias E. Larsson; Kenneth B. Jonsson; Östen Ljunggren; Peyman Björklund; Gunnar Sterner; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; calcitriol; chronic kidney disease; CKD; chronic renal failure; fibroblast growth factor 23; fibroblast growth factor-23; FGF23; FGF-23; GalNac-T3; GALNT3; GFR; hyperostosis-hyperphosphatemia syndrome; HHS; Klotho; parathyroid hormone; PTH; hyperparathyroidism; pHPT; sHPT; uremic; vitamin D3; Endocrinology; Endokrinologi; Internal Medicine; invärtesmedicin;

    Abstract : Fibroblast growth factor-23 (FGF23) is a novel, bone-produced hormone that regulates renal phosphate (Pi) reabsorption and calcitriol metabolism. Disorders of mineral and bone metabolism, such as autosomal dominant hypophosphatemic rickets (ADHR) and hyperostosis-hyperphosphatemia syndrome (HHS), witness the importance of well-balanced serum levels of FGF23.
