  1. 1. Molecular Regulation of Vascular Abnormalization and Its Role in Glioma

    Author : Lei Zhang; Anna Dimberg; Rolf Bjerkvig; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; glioma; vasculature; pleiotrophin; PTN; CD93; angiogenesis; GL261; RCAS;

    Abstract : Glioblastoma, grade IV glioma, is the one of the deadliest cancers, with a median survival of only 12-15 months despite aggressive treatment including surgery, chemotherapy and radiation. One hallmark of glioblastoma is the morphological and functional abnormalization of tumor blood vessels. READ MORE

  2. 2. Deciphering the Alk signaling pathway in Drosophila

    Author : Fredrik Hugosson; Ruth H. Palmer; Osamu Shimmi; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Drosophila; Alk; RTK; visceral mesoderm; signal transduction; growth factor; transcription factor; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Abstract : In Drosophila melanogaster the visceral mesoderm (VM) develops during embryogenesis in a process where myoblasts become specified to generate two distinct cell types, the founder cells (FCs) and the fusion competent myoblasts (FCMs) that consequently fuses. The cell specification is dependent on cell signaling mediated by the receptor tyrosine kinase (RTK) Anaplastic lymphoma kinase (Alk) and its ligand Jelly belly (Jeb), how this further sets up different identity programs that drive myoblasts to differentiate into FCs and FCMs is still not well understood. 3. 3. Generation of Dopaminergic Neurons from Human Embryonic Stem Cells

    Author : Tandis Vazin; Joakim Lundeberg; Ernest Arenas; KTH; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Human; dopaminergic; embryonic stem cells; differentiation; stromal cells; PA6 cells; dopamine; neurons; Neuroscience; Neurovetenskap; Neurobiology; Neurobiologi; Molecular neurobiology; Molekylär neurobiologi;

    Abstract : Since the first successful derivation of human embryonic stem cells (hESC), rapid progress has been attained in the development of strategies in differentiation of these cells into various neural lineages, with the fundamental objective of using these cells for replacement and repair of damaged neuronal circuits in the central nervous system (CNS). Of particular interest are midbrain dopaminergic (mDA) neurons, which play a central role in regulation of voluntary movement. READ MORE

  4. 4. Nervous mechanisms of postural control

    Author : Anastasia Karayannidou; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Postural control; equilibrium; body confguration; motor cortex; reticulospinal system; standing; locomotion; spinal cord injury; cat; rabbit; lamprey;

    Abstract : Maintenance of body confguration and orientation in space (postural control) is a vital motor function. A general goal of the present study was to analyze nervous feedback mechanisms for the maintenance of posture during different motor behaviors and with different postural perturbations. READ MORE
