  1. 1. Conservation Genetics of the Eurasian Otter in Sweden

    Author : Johanna Arrendal; Mats Björklund; Carles Vilà; Ralph Tiedemann; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Ecology; in situ conservation; individual identification; microsatellites; mtDNA; noninvasive genetic sampling; population dynamics; population size; PVA; restocking; Ekologi; Lutra lutra;

    Abstract : In this thesis, molecular genetic methods were used to study a threatened species, the Eurasian otter. Estimates of population size and population dynamics parameters were obtained, the genetic effects of a restocking program was evaluated, and a population viability analysis was conducted to assess which demographic parameters are most important for the future viability of an otter population. 2. 2. Capillary driven devices for patient-centric diagnostics

    Author : Gabriel Lenk; Niclas Roxhed; Göran Stemme; Jens Ducrée; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Capillary driven; Microfluidic; Dissolvable valves; PVA; Volume metering; Dried Blood Spots; DBS; Dried Plasma Spots; DPS; Medicinsk teknologi; Medical Technology;

    Abstract : Lateral flow assays is an example of a successful microfluidic platform relying on passive fluid transport, making them suitable for patient-centric and point-of-care applications. Flow control and valving in capillary driven devices typically rely on design-imprinted functions and operations which can be a limiting factor. READ MORE

    Abstract : Materials based on wood can offer sustainable alternatives to fossil-based plastics and composites, and show interesting mechanical properties. However, the issue of their flammability is generally unresolved. In this thesis, eco-friendly, fire retardant clay-cellulose nanofibril materials are investigated. READ MORE

  4. 4. Cryogels Based on Crosslinked Cells as Green Biocatalysts for Biotechnology

    Author : Oksana Zaushitsyna; Bioteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Cells; Crosslinkers; PVA PEI; Immobilization; Biocatalysts; Biobased chemicals; Biotransformation; stress tolerance;

    Abstract : Abstract Due to the finite nature of fossil resources and their environmental impact, such as greenhouse gases and climate change, the bio-based production of chemicals, materials and fuels is the subject of extensive research in industrial biotechnology. Biotransformation and fermentation are considered to be mild, “green” processes that make use of effective and reliable biocatalysts to provide bio-based chemicals. READ MORE

  5. 5. Applications of Chromophores and Multiphoton Techniques to Study Structure and Interactions of Bio-macromolecules in Assembled State

    Author : Piotr Hanczyc; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Z-scan; One-photon spectroscopy; oxazole yellow dyes; two-photon absorption.; non-linear spectroscopy; PVA DNA dyes films; linear dichroism; ruthenium complexes;

    Abstract : The research presented in this thesis is concerned with the linear and nonlinear optical properties of biopolymers and the chromophores that bind to them. This thesis combines analyses of the interactions of biomolecules with technological improvements of already existing systems for bionanotechnology-related research. READ MORE
