  1. 1. Heart rate variability and pacemaker treatment in children with Fontan circulation

    Author : Jenny Alenius Dahlqvist; Annika Rydberg; Urban Wiklund; Jaana Pihkala; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Congenital heart disease; Fontan circulation; heart rate variability; pacemaker; sinus node dysfunction; pediatrik; Pediatrics; kardiologi; Cardiology;

    Abstract : Background: Fontan surgery is performed in children with univentricular heart defects. Arrhythmias are frequent complications, occasionally requiring pacemaker treatment. Previous data regarding indications and risk factors for pacemaker treatment in Fontan patients is limited and conflicting. READ MORE

  2. 2. The pace of innovation : Patterns of innovation in the cardiac pacemaker industry

    Author : Patrik Hidefjäll; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Cardiac Pacemaker; Competition; Competitive Advantage; Defibrillator; Dominant Design; Innovation; Organizational Field; Patterns of Innovation; Technical Change; Technology Cycle; INTERDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH AREAS; TVÄRVETENSKAPLIGA FORSKNINGSOMRÅDEN;

    Abstract : The PhD thesis "The Pace of Innovation" addresses the questions how patterns of innovation change over time in an industry, their consequences for competition and how institutional conditions in an industry shape determinants of patterns of innovation. Patterns of innovation mainly refer to how certain regularities in the diversity, types and locus of innovation change in an industry according to a technology and industry life cycle. READ MORE

    Abstract : Background: Congenital heart disease (CHD) includes a wide range of malformations, from simple lesions, e.g. ventricular septal defect, that resolve spontaneously, to severe lesions, e.g. READ MORE

  4. 4. Investigation of electrochemical properties and performance of stimulation/sensing electrodes for pacemaker applications

    Author : Anna Norlin; Jinshan Pan; Dieter Scharnweber; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physical chemistry; pacemaker electrode; interfacial property; biomaterial; electrostimulation charge transfer mechanism; electrochemical impedance spectroscopy; transient processes; plasma electrolysis anodisation; porous niobium oxide; ruthenium oxide; nano-porous carbon; iridium oxide; titanium nitride; platinum; surface roughness; porous electrode; pacing impedance; electrode polarisation; Fysikalisk kemi; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : People suffering from certain types of arrhythmia may benefit from the implantation of a cardiac pacemaker. Pacemakers artificially stimulate the heart by applying short electrical pulses to the cardiac tissue to restore and maintain a steady heart rhythm. By adjusting the pulse delivery rate the heart is stimulated to beat at desired pace. READ MORE

  5. 5. Health-related quality of life in patients with pacemakers. A descriptive and experimental study

    Author : Dan Malm; Bengt Fridlund; Joep Perk; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : caring; elderly; gender; health-related quality of life; intervention; pacemaker population; patient education; self-care.; Health-related quality of life;

    Abstract : The general aim of this thesis was to describe and evaluate the health-relatedquality of life (HRQoL) of patients with pacemakers, as well as to determine theeffects of a nurse-led intervention regarding health-related quality of life in theform of a self-care program for these patients. Descriptive designs were used todescribe (I) quality of life (n=182) as well as (II) HRQoL (n=697) of pacemakerpatients based on a nursing perspective. READ MORE
