  1. 1. Aspects of Plasminiogen Activator Inhibitor 1 in Metabolic Syndrome

    Author : Karin Mossberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; PAI-1; metabolic syndrome; obesity; type 2 diabetes; cardiovascular disease; fibrinolysis; thrombi; plasma; platelets; adipose tissue; mRNA; qPCR; reference gene;

    Abstract : Plasminogen activator inhibitor 1 (PAI-1) is the main inhibitor of the fibrinolytic system and binds irreversibly to tissue-type plasminogen activator (t-PA), and thereby inhibits the protective action of t-PA against thrombus formation. Elevated levels of plasma PAI-1 is observed in subjects with type 2 diabetes (T2D) and the metabolic syndrome (MetS), which is a combination of metabolic features including obesity. READ MORE

  2. 2. Extracellular matrix remodelling proteases in acute appendicitis and their impact on appendiceal perforation

    Author : Anna Solberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; appendicitis; perforation; extracellular matrix; MMP-9; TIMP-1; uPA; PAI-1;

    Abstract : Abstract Background Appendicitis is associated with varying degradation of extracellular matrix involved in tissue injury. The principal aim of this study was to investigate whether immunoreactive techniques could illustrate the course and severity of appendicitis and separate the different inflammatory grades, phlegmonous, gangrenous and perforated appendicitis, from each other and from uninflamed appendix. 3. 3. Food intake, fibrinolysis and risk factors for cardiovascular disease : studies with special focus on plasminogen activator inhibitor type 1 (PAI-1)

    Author : Birgitta Sundell-Rånby; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Body build; diet; fiber; fibrinolysis; glucose; insulin; lipids; obesity; plasminogen activator inhibitor;

    Abstract : Elevated plasminogen activator inhibitor (PAI-1) activity levels, hyperlipemia, hypertension, impaired glucose tolerance and obesity, in particular central obesity, are all related to increased risk for the development of cardiovascular disease.Some risk factors are known to be and shown to be influenced by dietary habits. 4. 4. Experimental and Clinical Studies of Oxidative Stress in Pre-Eclampsia

    Author : Peppi Nash; Ulf Eriksson; Matts Olovsson; Leif Jansson; Lucilla Poston; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Obstetrics and gynaecology; Pre-eclampsia; Oxidative stress; Diabetes; Placenta; Rat; Antioxidants; Suramin; Vitamin E; Vitamin C; PAI-1; PAI-2; Obstetrik och kvinnosjukdomar;

    Abstract : Impaired placentation and oxidative stress are proposed to play major roles in the pathogenesis of pre-eclampsia (PE). It has recently been pointed out that PE might be more than one disease and may have several different pathogeneses. READ MORE

  5. 5. Plasminogen Activator Inhibitor 1 in Platelets - Studies of Synthesis, Activity, and Glycosylation Patterns

    Author : Helén Brogren; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : PAI-1; platelets; plasma; fibrinolysis; synthesis; polymorphism; glycosylation; activity; platelet mRNA;

    Abstract : Plasminogen activator inhibitor 1 (PAI-1) is the main physiological inhibitor of tissue-type plasminogen activator. Thus PAI-1 plays an important role in decreasing the fibrinolytic activity in human blood. PAI-1 is present in high concentrations in platelets and also in low concentrations in plasma, but the source of plasma PAI-1 is not known. READ MORE
