1. Localization of lipoprotein lipase in mouse pancreas, kidney and placenta : impact of metabolic disturbances on cellular distribution and activity regulation
Abstract : Lipoprotein lipase (LPL) is the key enzyme for metabolism of triglycerides in plasma lipoproteins. In recent years many new facts about the enzyme and its regulation have been uncovered. The endothelial membrane protein GPIHBP1 translocates LPL through endothelial cells and holds the enzyme in place at the luminal side of the capillary endothelium. READ MORE

2. Positron Emission Tomography and Magnetic Resonance Techniques in Diabetes
Abstract : In order to further advance the field of diabetes research there is a great need for establishing validated non-invasive quantitative techniques to study the pancreas and other tissues of importance for blood glucose regulation. The general aim of this thesis was to explore magnetic resonance techniques and positron emission tomography as such tools. READ MORE

3. Imaging Islets of Langerhans by Positron Emission Tomography : Quantification of Beta-Cell Mass in the Native Pancreas and the Islet Graft
Abstract : Type 1 and 2 Diabetes Mellitus are a growing health problem throughout the world. There is an increasing need for methodologies, which are both reliable and non-invasive to measure the amount of insulin-producing tissue (Beta-cell mass, or BCM), as well as rapidly quantify changes in the BCM due to the onset of disease, beta-cell replacement therapy, or other treatments. 4. Peptide Receptor Radionuclide Therapy in Neuroendocrine Neoplasms : Aspects of tumour characteristics, receptor recycling and peptide mass
Abstract : Neuroendocrine neoplasm (NEN) can arise in any part of the body, but most commonly in the lungs, bronchi, and the gastrointestinal tract including the pancreas. They combine neuroendocrine and tissue-of-origin-specific characteristics; explaining different symptoms depending on the organ of origin. READ MORE

5. Nuclear medicine imaging and treatment in pheochromocytoma, paraganglioma, and role of the new tracer 11C-hydroxy ephedrine in diabetes mellitus
Abstract : Carbon-11 hydroxy ephedrine (11C-HED) is a norepinephrine analog which binds to the norepinephrine receptor present in adrenal medulla, lung, liver and pancreas. 11C-HED-positron emission tomography with concomitant computed tomography (PET/CT) can image these organs. READ MORE
