1. Modelling and simulation of paper structure development
Abstract : A numerical tool has been developed for particle-level simulations of fibre suspension flows, particularly forming of the fibre network structure of paper sheets in the paper machine. The model considers inert fibres of various equilibrium shapes, and finite stiffness, interacting with each other through normal, frictional, and lubrication forces, and with the surrounding fluid medium through hydrodynamic forces. 2. Baggy paper webs : Effect of uneven moisture and grammage profiles in different process steps
Abstract : One of the problems encountered in paper converting is caused by the occurrence of "baggy webs", which essentially is when the tension profile of the paper web is uneven. In an area with low tension the paper is longer, which results in bagginess. READ MORE

3. Dryer Section Control in Paper Machines During Web Breaks
Abstract : Web breaks in the dryer section of a paper machine cause loss of production and quality problems. After a web break, the steam pressure in the cylinders must be reduced to avoid overheating. READ MORE

4. Protein Model Quality Assessment : A Machine Learning Approach
Abstract : Many protein structure prediction programs exist and they can efficiently generate a number of protein models of a varying quality. One of the problems is that it is difficult to know which model is the best one for a given target sequence. Selecting the best model is one of the major tasks of Model Quality Assessment Programs (MQAPs). READ MORE

5. Interactive Online Machine Learning
Abstract : With the Internet of Things paradigm, the data generated by the rapidly increasing number of connected devices lead to new possibilities, such as using machine learning for activity recognition in smart environments. However, it also introduces several challenges. The sensors of different devices might be mobile and of different types, i.e. READ MORE
