  1. 1. Modelling and simulation of paper structure development

    Author : Stefan B Lindström; Tetsu Uesaka; Myat Htun; Cyrus Aidun; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Forming; Fibre; Paper; Fibre suspension; Paper structure; Simulation; Rheology; Chemical engineering; Kemiteknik; Engineering physics; Teknisk fysik;

    Abstract :      A numerical tool has been developed for particle-level simulations of fibre suspension flows, particularly forming of the fibre network structure of paper sheets in the paper machine. The model considers inert fibres of various equilibrium shapes, and finite stiffness, interacting with each other through normal, frictional, and lubrication forces, and with the surrounding fluid medium through hydrodynamic forces. 3. 3. Infrared Emittance of Paper : Method Development, Measurements and Application

    Author : Caroline Hyll; Lars Mattsson; Hannes Vomhoff; Carl-Gustaf Ribbing; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Emittance; Emissivity; Thermography; Paper; Sheet; Papermaking; Paper mechanics; Moisture; Material properties; Reflectance; Transmittance; Absorptance; Infrared; Mid-wavelength infrared; MWIR; Long-wavelength infrared; LWIR; Angle-resolved; Directional;

    Abstract : Thermography is a non-destructive technique which uses infrared radiation to obtain the temperature distribution of an object. The technique is increasingly used in the pulp and paper industry. To convert the detected infrared radiation to a temperature, the emittance of the material must be known. READ MORE

  4. 4. Protein structure prediction : Zinc-binding sites, one-dimensional structure and remote homology

    Author : Nanjiang Shu; Sven Hovmöller; Bruce Donald; Geoff Barton; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; protein structure prediction; zinc-binding; profile; homology detection; shape string; Bioinformatics; Bioinformatik; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Structural Chemistry; strukturkemi;

    Abstract : Predicting the three-dimensional (3D) structure of proteins is a central problem in biology. These computationally predicted 3D protein structures have been successfully applied in many fields of biomedicine, e.g. family assignments and drug discovery. READ MORE

  5. 5. Paper-based Supercapacitors

    Author : Britta Andres; Håkan Olin; Mats Sandberg; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; graphene; graphite; paper; nano fibrillated cellulose; supercapacitor; electric double-layer capacitor; energy storage; roll-to-roll; coating; kinetic energy recovery;

    Abstract : The growing market of mobile electronic devices, renewable off-grid energy sources and electric vehicles requires high-performance energy storage devices. Rechargeable batteries are usually the first choice due to their high energy density. However, supercapacitors have a higher power density and longer life-time compared to batteries. READ MORE
