  1. 6. On the Fluid Mechanics of Partial Dewatering during Roll Forming in Paper Making

    Author : Richard Holm; KTH; []
    Keywords : Fluid mechanics; roll forming; partial dewatering; capillary waves;

    Abstract : The present work deals with some aspects of the fluidmechanics of paper-making,more specifically partial dewateringduring roll forming. The study is mainly experimental. Pressureand wire position measurements have been carried out in anexperimental facility, the KTH-Former,which models the rollforming zone of a paper machine. READ MORE

  2. 7. Connecting Process Variables to Product Properties in Papermaking: A Multivariate Approach

    Author : Mikael Håkansson; Olle Hagman; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Signalbehandling; Signal Processing;

    Abstract : In paper-making there are numerous of parameters that control the final outcome of the paper. This thesis examines the connections between paper properties and influential factors in the manufacturing process, by looking at the entire fiber line from the incoming wood chips to the actual finished paper. 3. 8. Microfibrillated cellulose: Energy-efficient preparation techniques and applications in paper

    Author : Mikael Ankerfors; Lars Wågberg; Akira Isogai; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Microfibrillated cellulose; microfibrillar cellulose; nanofibrillated cellulose; nanofibrillar cellulose; cellulose nanofibrils; nanocellulose; MFC; NFC; CNF; production techniques; energy efficient; gel properties; films; enzymes; carboxymethylation; carboxymethyl cellulose; CMC; mechanical properties; oxygen barrier; homogenization; linting; papermaking; Fiber- och polymervetenskap; Fibre and Polymer Science;

    Abstract : This work describes three alternative processes for producing microfibrillated cellulose (MFC; also referred to as cellulose nanofibrils, CNF) in which bleached pulp fibres are first pretreated and then homogenized using a high-pressure homogenizer. In one process, fibre cell wall delamination was facilitated by a combined enzymatic and mechanical pretreatment. READ MORE

  4. 9. Synthesis of xyloglucan oligo- and polysaccharides with glycosynthase technology

    Author : Fredrika Gullfot; Harry Brumer; Tuula Teeri; Jerry Ståhlberg; Mats Martinelle; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; glycosynthase; xyloglucan; xyloglucan endo-transglycosylase; retaining glycoside hydrolase; xyloglucanase; polysaccharide synthesis; Bioengineering; Bioteknik; Enzyme engineering; Enzymteknik; Bioorganical synthesis; Bioorganisk syntes; Biomaterials; Biomaterial;

    Abstract : Xyloglucans are polysaccharides found as storage polymers in seeds and tubers, and as cross-linking glycans in the cell wall of plants. Their structure is complex with intricate branching patterns, which contribute to the physical properties of the polysaccharide including its binding to and interaction with other glycans such as cellulose. 5. 10. A novel composite material from recycled constituents

    Author : Magdalena Szpieg; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Polymera konstruktionsmaterial; Polymeric Composite Materials;

    Abstract : The increasing industrial use of carbon fibre in e.g. aircraft and wind turbines calls for strategies for their recovery and possible reuse. In additional, tremendous amount of energy is needed to be able to manufacture pristine carbon fibres. READ MORE
